Laptop XP Compatability Question

Post by Yogi »

I am currently considering buying a Laptop. I would prefer to be able to Duel Boot Windows XP and a Linux Distro (Ubuntu?) as I do not feel like I need Vista yet. Are all computers that are Vista compatible, also XP compatible, and if not how can I tell which ones can run XP?

You can still get XP as an option on some laptops, perhaps you can track one of those down? But yes, any laptop which runs Vista will run XP as well. The default XP installation will probably be missing some drivers and you'll have to track them down yourself, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

I just got a used Dell C640 from e-bay for $270 with Shipping and Handling so you can get some pretty good deals. It has XP pro on it and I believe the Vusta drivers are available for it.

Thanks for the advice. i've been trying to get a Laptop with no default operating system installed, but that's proving to be difficuilt so I might have to just pay the Microsoft Tax.
