Yeah, the added feature list is almost a shopping list of demanded features; the Exchange support alone is going to get a great deal of interest.

Holy shit I know what you mean. The 16GB versions of 3G iPhone is 299, apparently; in AU we pay 400ish for a fucking iTouch (iPhone - phone). Looking at comparable handsets here, I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone (either of them) were well over a thousand dollars here.

PS, 299USD is about 309AUD. Oh well.

I think they're trying to find wireless partners in some of the remaining wealthy countries, in particular the ROK, PRC and HK SAR.

They signed a deal with the biggest telco here in Singapore to bring the phone.

It's worth noting that the $299 pricing is subsidized. Look at AT&T's latest press release.

They renegotiated the contract. Apple no longer takes a percentage of revenue from AT&T for iPhone users, but in exchange, AT&T subsidizes the iPhone somewhere in the region of $200.

So really, you're getting a $499 iPhone for $299, but selling your soul to AT&T for the next two years. I'm sure in countries like Belgium where phones MUST be sold unlocked the iPhone'll be going for ~$500-$600.

An iPod Touch is $299 over here. More than the subsidized iPhone.




The part that really irks me is that AT&T is stepping in and requiring in-store activation and Apple is no longer selling the iPhone online. That sucks because that means I'm not getting the new iPhone *shrugs* I walked into an AT&T store, bought my iPhone, took it home, and hacked/unlocked it without ever activating with AT&T. Since you can't do that with the new iPhone, I guess I'm not getting one.

And no, I'm not so rich as to be able to afford a new iPhone every year but used unlocked iPhones go for near retail on ebay.

I tried it once, and I rather have the shitty Treo I use now for company stuff than the iPhone because the touchscreen sucks (for me). The lacking responsiveness of touchscreens is not something I like.

But maybe the feature list means its sale figures will be less underwhelming here in Germany than with the old one. Who knows...

Dunno, my ancient N72 can do all that. For slightly higher price there are phones that include an actual keyboard. So whats so special about iphone ?

Go use one. If you don't think it's better than something like an N95, don't buy one. I don't know why iPhone pisses so many people off as much as it does.

Bigger screen for starters, and a touch screen actually allows better ease of access.

THough web browsing takes a while to get used to but definitely better than pressing a multitude of buttons repeatedly.

According to this video from the keynote the price in almost everyone of the first 25 countries that it will be released in will be $199 USD (That includes Belgium) and it'll happen on july 11.

i'd rather have a multitude of button that this OSK, i type painfully slow on my Ipod Touch, worse than my N810 and waaaay worse than on my BB 8820 and Nokia E61

That's nice and all, but the iPhone's distributor for Belgium has already said they're pushing back the release here to "sometime at the end of the year". For undisclosed reasons. As usual.

It's really weird, isn't it? It happens with other companies' products, but Apple products seem to invoke the most hate. I'm pretty sure our products are designed that way, though. It's not important that everyone like the iPhone, but it is important that everyone talk about it.

The people who get most offended by Apple's temerity to offer a product that isn't exactly what they wanted tend to be the bullet-pointer crowd. They compare two products based on a list of bullet points, lots of times without having used either of them.

I think it's less to do with hatred of Apple products, and more to do with hatred of Apple fanboys. If Apple came out with a wristwatch made from Steve Jobs ejaculate priced at $99.99, there are a lot of people on the internet who would immediately go buy one, proclaim it the greatest wristwatch ever made, and suggest it to everyone who might be looking for a wristwatch along with everyone who isn't. If I saw someone doing that, I probably wouldn't be able to resist pointing out "It's not that much better then other watches! In fact, it might be a little worse since it's made of semen!"

How do you suggest people compare two products? Buy both of them? When I prepare to make a purchase, I look at what all of the possible choices can do, then make a list of what I want mine to be able to do, then choose a price point, then go with the item at that price point that has the most features from that list.

'Not be able to resist pointing out' doesn't mean you'd create an entire internet subculture around spreading poorly-informed 'criticisms' of a product. Not a day goes by I don't hear another totally unfounded 'fact' about iTunes or something else.

Frankly, having used both 'do everything' phones and an iPhone, there is no fucking way someone's going to convince me the interface isn't worth an extra hundred bucks. That's not Apple loyalty or iPhone fanboyism (I was very against iPhones before using one) that's just my experience using both. However, I don't rant constantly about how users of N95s are cheating themselves or foolish or gadgetphile hipster retards.

Apparently (no actual prices are available yet) iPhones will be at a similar pricepoint to things like the N95 in AU. If that's true (and the plans are similar 'unlimited data' ones like in the US), I'd seriously consider getting one since my current phone is borked. I'll not be surprised when they turn out to be 1000USD, though.
