What is better, an old Radeon 9600 XT card
or this?

I know the Radeon card is older, but which is better?

The 9600XT probably performs slightly better, but both chips are so old I'd stay far away from both.

I am helping a friend update his PC's software. His Gateway has that integrated card in the motherboard, but I also just found my old Radeon card. Since I don't use it, I was just wondering if I should stick that Radeon card in there.

I'd say stick it in and just maybe you will get better performance.
The 9600XT has better performance than entry level parts like x300 so you might get some juice out of it.

The 9600XT should be significantly faster.

Yes, not only is GMA950 much slower in general, but it's missing support for newer rendering features that even the old 9600 has.

Heck, one of my friends has trouble running Diablo 2 at 800x600 on her comp. which uses a GMA 950.

Hmmm... Cant seem to get it into the slot. Is there a compatibility issue maybe?

That card is most likely AGP, how old is the machine, are you sure it's not a PCI-E slot?

Big black one is PCIe, brown one is AGP.

Aren't the different AGP voltages on physically different slots, to prevent over-volting? /

Yeah, it's not an AGP slot. Damn. Oh well.
Thanks for the help, guys.
