Yahtzee goes after gaming web-comics
Ctrl-Alt-Del Online, specifically
Though he doesn't mention it, CAD Online is the only webcomic that recently had an entirely unfunny plotline about the main character's g/f having a miscarriage - and in one previous review, he singled them out (albeit briefly) for having way too much text in their comics - which is quite frankly so fucking true.
In any event, Penny Arcade is the only comic I find more or less consistently funny lately. For example, CAD jumped the shark ages ago, and VG Cats never made much sense at all.

Yahtzee's hatred of CAD is well documented. Just scroll down to "23/3/08: You Cad". That said, though, I've been expecting this for a while. Ever since I read one of Yahtzee's posts in a thread on SA Forums, where I believe he said something along the lines of "I'm tempted to stretch the the term 'videogame review' just far enough to include CAD". Looks like he finally got around to doing so, even if he didn't mention it by name, this time.
Oh, he also once trashed out CAD in a Gamespot interview, though I don't have the link handy.
Seriously, he really hates CAD.

I was typing out a well thought out response to why both of these guys are idiots but then i realized that AVGN already did a brilliant parody of this with Nastalgia Critic and Captain S, building over several "episodes" before climaxing in a mock fight in a parking lot.

I liked it when it started, with Ethan pissing himself etc.Vympel wrote: Though he doesn't mention it, CAD Online is the only webcomic that recently had an entirely unfunny plotline about the main character's g/f having a miscarriage - and in one previous review, he singled them out (albeit briefly) for having way too much text in their comics - which is quite frankly so fucking true.
Of course, he just had to take himself seriously. Then again, I generally hate it when CAD tries to do love. Actually, I hate it when webcomics in general try to do love. It's almost always pure nerdwank.
I'll listen to the review when I get home from work

I liked it, despite how hypocritical it was of Yahtzee to do such a review, Tim Buckley deserves every bit of shit he gets in my opinion, what a fucktard.

Yahtzee did webcomics but quit it after he made a few realiziations. He speaks from experience, not hypocrisity. His hatred wasn't just aimed at CAD but allot of webcomics in general.I liked it, despite how hypocritical it was of Yahtzee to do such a review
Let's face it, allot of webcomics are shitty and even more waste of time then regular comics. There are a few out there that are genuinely worth reading but these are far and few between.
The best webcomics I've read are good enough to be actually sold or failed to sell for some reason. Some webcomics are actually industry rejects. Some are done purely for their value of fun. For a time I've actually followed one that was so shitty that I followed it to see where the trainwreck would roll and surprises of surprises: from one cliche to another.

Does Yahtzee slam Megatokyo at all? (Can't watch the video while at work). Because it's really impossible to bash webcomics without slamming this piece of self-indulgent otaku pandering shit. Which for some reason has a massive fanbase despite going nowhere and being little more than a string of lame cliches strung together.
"It's you Americans. There's something about nipples you hate. If this were Germany, we'd be romping around naked on the stage here."
Megatokyo was good when Largo was still the spirit of random, rather than a proper character.

I have never laughed harder in my life than I did at the image of the miscarriage Yahtzee made, especially because of the "THIS IS THE WORST IMAGE I HAVE EVER MADE AND I HATE MYSELF" overlaid on it.

I don't think there's anything tinfoil about that at all, he has an established pattern of avoiding or rejecting negative feedback and being a total douchebag in general. It's entirely plausible that he would rather have his forums down for a day or two or three than have people chattering about Yahtzee's thinly-veiled attack on his pile of shit.

You're very confused. The criticism is that Buckley went from "LOL ZANY" to "SERIOUS BUSINESS MISCARRIAGE!"
Abortion had nothing to do with it.

Yahtzee implied Buckley was trying to make light of abortions, when he was doing nothing of the sort.Hotfoot wrote:You're very confused. The criticism is that Buckley went from "LOL ZANY" to "SERIOUS BUSINESS MISCARRIAGE!"

I admit, jumping to Lillah suddenly having an abortion was... unconventional? That the right word? But if he really has all this planned, and he really meant to do that and it wasn't a spur of the moment, "I needz some drama," it's his comic, his story. He might of lost some readers, but anybody who would really leave because of something overall trivial like that had no business reading it in the first place.

I remember when everyone said they liked this because it was a new concept, just like how originality and quality are basically the same thing.Cycloneman wrote:I believe Stark said it best:Seriously folks, making fun of comics on the internet is really old.Stark wrote:How original.

1) Miscarriage does not equal Abortion.Odin wrote:Yahtzee implied Buckley was trying to make light of abortions, when he was doing nothing of the sort.Hotfoot wrote:You're very confused. The criticism is that Buckley went from "LOL ZANY" to "SERIOUS BUSINESS MISCARRIAGE!"

2) The video makes it clear that he is not saying he was making light of miscarriages. His complaint is that its a jarringly hilarious change of tone done in such a way that it makes a mockery of the situation thanks to hilarious melodrama.

It'd be the same thing if you quit playing a game because one of your favorite characters got killed off. Like Mass Effect *spoilers for Mass Effect, Final Fantasy 7, Star Wars, Eragon, and GTA IV*When Ashley or Kaidan and maybe Wrex get killed on Virmire, or when Aeris dies, or Brom in Eragon, or Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Roman/Kate in GTA IV. All of them more established characters than this unnamed child, and I highly doubt many people quit playing/watching/reading because of these characters dying.Zixinus wrote:And that is the sort of logic which is why CAD sucks or even why allot of webcomics sucks.Yahtzee implied Buckley was trying to make light of abortions, when he was doing nothing of the sort.
