The younger sibling is entering art school and the parents are thinking of getting a tablet pc for her. Do you guys have any recommendations? Probably around the 1,500 USD range.

Should be durable enough to be carried around campus. I expect her to sketch often with the thing, and it should also be reliable enough cause she'll probably be doing some 3D rendering with it as well.

The best one is the Lenovo X61 Tablet, but it's pricey.

I've seen a tablet torn up by note taking before, so one thing to look into is a drawing tablet to compliment the PC itself.

Most common tablet around is the HP TX2500, simply because it's available at $900 and has an AMD processor comparable to the latest Centrinos. It's quite alright, I hear, if a little heavy at 4.4ibs.

If you're spending more, X61 tablet and Latitude XT sound better. But I don't have any hands-on experience here.

I've got a HP tx2000z (predecessor to the tx2500). It's a decent enough laptop.
