Not sure if this belongs here or OT. Going with G&C because Max Payne started as a game, sorry if it's a mispost.

My coworkers seem to love it, but I think it'll blow.

Eh, it looks okay. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It could blow, or it could kick ass. Max Payne was pretty much designed to be as noir as possible, so it could translate really well into a movie. According to IMDB,
IMDB wrote:Coming together to solve a series of murders in New York City are a DEA agent (Wahlberg) whose family was slain as part of a conspiracy and an assassin (Kunis) out to avenge her sister's death. The duo will be hunted by the police, the mob, and a ruthless corporation.
It looks like it's supposed to follow the first game, but there's a lot of changes to facilitate the movie plot. I'm not sure what the fuck was up with those angels of death, or whatever the fuck they were. Though I must say I like how they're adding in the bullet time and dodges from the games. It would be criminal not to.

It was written by Shawn Ryan, the creator and writer for The Shield. The film may be good.

please, PLEASE let those angel things just be Max going crazy or having weird dreams, as much as I would love a Condemned movie Max Payne just is not the place to do it.

The Angels could be Max on Valkyr, he gets two doses of it in the game if I remeber right. It could be Max in "fucked up world"
The only two things they MUST bring from the game.
1. The flesh of fallen angels....
2. The Pathway of blood leading to the crib, it's such a damn good visual.

God, I hated those levels; fucking platform jumping.
But hopefully this will be a good movie that does justice to the game. The plot from the first one could easily be made to fit into a cinematic format with only a few alterations.

I remember the game had a dream sequence and a drug trip sequence. He gets more freaky scenes in the sequel. (Which, if they do this one right, they could easily make a movie of.)
Does anyone remember the Valkyr sequence when he goes through each room twice, answering the phone and reading a letter or something? The first time, it's just gibberish from the voice of his partner. He thinks its a prank call, but calls it familiar. The second time, he hears someone saying "Max you're hallucinating on the drug stay with me" or something to that effect. He still thinks it's a prank call of gibberish. The first and second letter have more potential. They say "You're in a graphic novel" like the graphic novel cutscenes, and "You're in a video game, Max."
How about some fourth-wall breaking in this movie? Like he's high on Valkyr and starts talking to the audience, when one person tells him he's in a movie, and he flips out. That would be sweet.

So finally we get a movie about a game based on cop movies cliches.
I swear right after Max Payne was released a movie came out that had a cop whose wife was killed by some mob types or something. There might be particular plot elements that are unique to Max Payne but the overall plot of being set-up, the drug trafficking, and having his wife and child murdered because of his involvement in the investigation will bring it too close to other movies with the same elements. If they pull this off I will be impressed.

Can't believe I didn't think of that
. I feel less worried now. At any rate, this has potential, the game should be very easily adopted, and they have the "run and gun" move from the game down pat.
I'll remain cautiously wary about this, but it could be awesome.
He gets the overdose while in the burning house, and another one in the lab, right? (I thought only once
).

Mona drugs him in Ranganrock or whowever it was spelled, not clear if it is Valkyr but it does not him out and he starts having crazy dreams, and the second was after taking out the mob boss he gets an OD of Valkyr, wanders off in a daze, has some crazy ass nightmares and wakes up in a gutter full of his own puke.

It looks so damn promising -I can't wait. Just as long as the crazy angel shit is Max going nuts, not the producers going: "lets literally interpret the Norse mythology and actually have Valkyries".

Add one more to the choir of "that winged demon thing better be in a drug fueled dream".
Also it's nice that they're making the snow as big a part of the story as it was in the game, where it was such a terrible storm it really was like the end of the world coming.

This shall be awesome.
I am a big fan of the games, actually i have Max Payne 2 installed on my PC right now.

The snow is obligatory.
It's Ragnarock.
And yes the Valkyries must be a drug induced dream.
1. The flesh of fallen angels....
Yes, and..
Max, dearest of all my friends...

I have to say, the lady they cast as Mona Sax is a dead look-a-like. I'm hopeful, and feverishly wishing it'll be good.
Have no fear, Vlad is here!

Here's the cast list, as taken five minutes ago from IMDB.
Mark Wahlberg ... Max Payne
Mila Kunis ... Mona Sax
Beau Bridges ... BB Hensley
Ludacris ... Jim Bravura
Donal Logue ... Alex Balder
Chris O'Donnell ... Jason Colvin
Joel Gordon ... Owen Green
Kate Burton ... Nicole Horne
Rico Simonini ... Detective Amerini
Ted Atherton ... Detective Shipman
Bill Boyd ... Bravura's driver
Marianthi Evans ... Michelle Payne
other cast:
Amaury Nolasco ... Jack Lupino
Nelly Furtado ... Christa Balder
Andrew Friedman ... Trevor Duncan
Conrad Pla ... Captain Bowen
Siobhan Murphy ... Jackie
Genadijs Dolganovs ... Misha - The Enforcer
I can live with Ludacris being Bravura. It's not accurate to the game but I won't begrudge them from tampering a bit with a minor character. I'm sure there are some scruples about having an all-white cast, too (which Max Payne certainly did have).
The one thing that perturbs me is that I do not see Vlad anywhere on that list. Vlad was easily one of the best characters in the whole game, brief as his appearance were. If he's in the movie they'd best stick to his gets-a-kick-out-of-being-a-gangster style.
"
Vladimir: I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse. I've always wanted to say that. "
I don't see Woden, either, which is kind of lame. Hopefully those roles will be filled out a bit later. Then again, if there's a trailer, it means they've already begun filming. Or IMDB could simply be out of date on its information.

It was a Finnish company that did make the Max Payne game, and IIRC they used thier own employees as models for the characters; probably not a lot of black people in Finland. Although casting Ludacris seems a bit odd, just don't picture him being a police chief.
Hopefully IMBD is wrong and they do have Vlad and Woden in the movie; although I could see how their roles could be written out without affecting the plot too much.

I don't see Punchinello either, though admittedly his role could be folded into Lupino's if you went about it the right way.

yeah Remedy is finnish and yeah it the employers and their friends and family that made up the Models for Max Payne (Max Payne 2 had professionnal actors) and yes there's not alot of black people back here, at least not in the amounts USA has.

Speak for yourself, Montanana for example has just over one million people living in the state, and there are an estimated 4,000 "black" people in the state according to the US census study.
Finland does not collect race information so getting an idea if there are more than 4,000 Black people in Finland's 5 million plus population is hard. But yes, please keep in mind, We are America, we have more Fin's that Finland, more Danes then Denmark, and more German's than Germany. We do not however, have more African-American's than African.

I got to see the actual outfit worn by Max Payne at the GameOn exhibition. That was a religious fucking experience for me. That's how much I love this game.
I was hoping that Beau Bridges would be Bravura and that Ludacris would be BB. It would make more sense that way.
And who is Marlow (from The Wire) playing?

Knowing Hollywood, there is a 95% chance this will be shit. Because of the recent streak of decent comic movies (you all know which.), there's still that 5% chance, which is 5% more than usual.
They'll just fuck it up and ruin a good story.

The visuals at some points reminded me of Sin City's stylized.... visuals. And that's good (specially for the dream sequences).
I'm just wondering about Vlad, given that he's such a major character in Max Payne 2, he should at least show up in a cameo.
I just wonder if Max will spew out his contrived metaphors, and have his noire outlook, or if they'll make him a silent-type Bourne clone

He rarely talks in the game, but if there isn't a near-constant and uber-noir internal monologue going on then they have no grounds to call it Max Payne.
