X-wing alliance problem

An old game I know, but I still play it from time to time.

I recently re-formatted my hard drive, and when I re-installed XWA, it no longer recognizes my video card. I have an Nvidia 8600.

I know it did recognize it before, but for some reason, all it sees is the motherboards onbaord graphics chip, which can't play it for crap.

Ok. This is not a driver issue.

I re-installed an older driver and it still didn't work.

Compatibility mode also does not work.

What the hell is going on?

ok. I just installed X-wing Vs. Tie Fighter, and the X-wing and Tie fighter remakes, and they're all having the same problem.

What is your system configuration (CPU, GPU, OS)?

CPU is an intel core 2 duo E6300

GPU is an Nvidia Geforce 8600

OS is XP professional with service pack 2.

The exact same configuration as when It ran perfectly 3 months ago.
The only difference is that i've since reformatted my hard drive.

I'd also like to know. I have the same games (and XP SP 2) and can't get them to run.

getting them to run is no problem.

They just won't recognize my Fucking graphics card like they did two freaking days ago before I re-formatted and re-installed windows.

Can you disable the onboard graphics? There's often a BIOS option for it, otherwise device manager should work.

hmmm. This is odd.

My 8600 gts is the only thing listed under display adapters in device manager.

This might just be a general compatibility problem with the 800 series Nvidia cards. I've seen references to it on the Nvidia forums. I just didn't think I had the same problem since it actually worked for me about a month ago.

and WooT!

Found a driver workaround.

All the X-wing games work fine on an Nvidia 8600 gts if you use the 160.03 drivers

Mods can locky lockey now if they want.
