Vista Problems

So I had some problems with Vista over the weekend. When I tried to open up my Device Manager, I had an error akin to "MMC could not open ****". I tried initially with "scf \scannow" in the Command Console but that didn't work as the scan stopped half way. So I tried to repair the problem by using the Windows Vista installation CD and use the same command in the console. But the CD could not detect my existing installation.
Here is the catch: I have a dual boot system with Win XP installed as well. Also, I changed the current motherboard some 3 months ago, and the hard drives were just planted in.
I am staring at two options: let the problem be as it isn't wholy interfering with my gaming, or scrap Vista and XP and reinstall Vista from scratch. ARe there other options?
