Does anyone here play Metal Gear Online? If so what can you recommend strategywise?

I haven't, but I read in a guide (I believe GameFAQs) that the GSR may be preferable to the Operator amongst pistols since the latter does incorporate a visible laser.
Are you aiming for the singleplayer item that requires MGO play, or...?

I actually like MGO. MGS4's awful controls notwithstanding, it actually tries to be a different sort of multi player tacticool-em-up. Their isn't enough content in it to justify a stand alone game, but they obviously realized that and that's why they packed it with MGS4.
Also, the "Red vs. Blue vs. Snake" game mode is awesome.

After playing 10 hours of MGO you unlock the Scanning Plug for purchase from Drebin for 10, 000DP. It's like the syringe for CQC but instead of whatever the syringe does (I never really use it) it highlights everyone linked by SOP in the current zone.

Cool stuff! Thanks!

As I understand it, the Syringe will help Snake if you use it few enough times, but it'll really mess up a human nano'ed enemy.

Eh, I didn't use the syringe outside of the mantis fight. (And I thought the "Oh, this is blu-ray" bit was bad...)
Supposedly, you can knock people out with it, but you've got so many options otherwise.
As far as MGO goes, the scanning plug seems less than useful. (I'm Monocle Shark on there.) But I've not really messed with any of the meta-game tools, like the skill systems.
I just grab a SVD and a high place. Hit detection seems to be client side... so that makes it easier on a legit sniper, but one can see the obvious vector for cheaters...
And I can't say I've run into too many blatant ones... Other than an odd bug on this one map that allows people to roll from somewhere and end up ontop of the two highest buildings.
That said, it's a definite improvement over the MGS3:S MGO... If only because the control scheme makes bloody sense.

Don't forget Vamp.
Topical, as I a few hours ago watched a video of a player who could not take the fucking hint even when Vamp himself gave it away multiple times... (To say more, i.e. of its other storyline/boss-related use, would be to spoil.)
