Yes, Macs again.

I'm trying to figure out how to get a Mac notebook on the web via wireless. It's an older model running either 10.2 or 10.3, and the Apple store has apparently said they stopped selling compatible Airport cards. Should I look for an ol Airport on eBay, or are there third-party cards and drivers that'll do the job?

Amazon may have what you're looking for.

$195? For that money I can get an unlimited bus pas to the library with enough change left for a hooker. Are those normal prices?

I have no idea. I don't normally shop for Mac hardware, though I suppose eBay might have it for cheaper.

Vas ist loss??

Anyway, is it so old it doesn't have internal hardware? I guess you'll have to use USB or PCMCIA depending on what it's got. Is there any reaason why regular stuff wouldn't work with an older Mac?

Yeah, just google for something like "mac usb wireless" and you'll find quite a few hits.

Look at wireless ethernet bridges.

So I can use non-Apple-branded hardware?

Yes, just make sure they're compatible.

Right, before I spend money, I'm going to try and install an old B card I have loitering around. The chipset has OSX drivers, so I'll change the vendor and product ID's in a hex editor and pray it installs - hey, it worked for my last wireless card. Clumsy, I know, but money's tight.

If that doesn't work, I'll shop around.
