A question or two on Amazon Kindles

So I've been looking at one of these suckers for awhile and decided to see if any of y'all actually own one and what your experiences with it are. I'm on the old fashioned side and enjoy a good book more than most, but these things are incredibly attractive.
So a few questions.
1. How comfortable are they to use in doors & out?
2. How well does the audio book player features work? Is it something you could hook up to some ear buds and listen too in a car for a 6 hr drive?
3. How long does it take to recharge the batteries? And what sort of life do you get outta the batteries in the long term?
4. Can you read a .pdf on one?
5. I'm a map junky, so how well does it display images of maps and things that are frequently included in books?
6. Does anyone know if they'll be coming out with a color version?
