Looks pretty awesome to own. I definitely would pay $20-30 more (the GoW2 comes "free" or $10 more for the LE when pre-ordering) to get this than the Pipboy clock. If I had a 360...

While it looks amazing, I have to ask: does the concept have any practical sense? That is, the concept of adding a chainsaw-like bayonet to your gun?

Just looking at the way most of the chain is under the barrel, my guess is you are supposed to use it to slash at your target, like an axe, rather than stab like a bayonet. If I remember right, most Space Marine chainswords are like that, no stabbing tip, just a broad slashing edge.

Mind you, when a Space Marine straps a chain blade to his gun, he doesn't fanny about:

Correct. In the game your character slices from the shoulder to the hip, I believe.

I'd be a lot more comfortable if the chainblade was covered just underneath the forward handgrip...

Given the nearly foot-severing loss of control from the times I got a chainsaw stuck in anything, I would have to say that attaching a chainsaw to a gun, then slashing at someone wearing armor that will resist cutting even better than a log, you are better off just trying to shoot them in the face a close range than chainsawing them. Sure, a good hit will reduce the target to a bloody mess, but I think you're more likely to have your gun ripped from your fingers because it got stuck on knife-resistant chain mail or an armored chest plate.

I think the blade of the chainsaw on the gun may have something to do with it, as instead of a chain, it uses sharpened blades angled for slicing (the saw runs toward the butt of the gun, rather than the muzzle), so it would be easier for it to cut through chain mail. That, and the characters in GoW seem far stronger than an average human, especially with the apparant weight of their massive armor.

With the Gears gun I particularly enjoy that the entire handguard is now a deadly chainsaw, and to hold the gun you now put your hand in a hole in the deadly chainsaw.

Guys, can we not talk about the mechanics of the Lancer, or indeed the Lancer at all if we can avoid it? It's poorly designed and just plain idiotic both in concept and operation, but in small enough dosages it can serve as a fairly effective tool for showing that Gears of War is full on macho 80's bullshit.

And win, don't forget that. Unlike 40k, it KNOWS it's stupid sweaty one-handed M60 pulp.

That said, this makes me very sad Amazon doesn't ship this shit outside the US.

There's probably some sort of symbolism in the fact that no guns apart from the Longshot have a stock. It's like they've been explicitly designed to be fired exclusively from the hip.

What's strange is the Lancer has iron sights and is always held to the shoulder when aiming. It also extends out past the handgrip to look like they were in the middle of building the stock when it was taken from the factory.

Hey, with armor like what the guy in GoW was wearing, you could probably just rest the butt of the gun against the armored nook in the shoulder-pauldrons.

That would be one shitty way to design any gun, because if the shooter wasn't wearing that armor he would be at a loss.
