I really wish I knew something about naval combat, now!
Yeah, the development period of the bayonet isn't close up and dirty at all, no siree....Chardok wrote:I just can't get excited about this. it's my least favorite time-period for war. I prefer close up and dirty (as in M:TW or R:TW) or reaaaaaly far and techie (As in WWII onward). Even the Civil war and WWI evoke a meh response from me as far as gaming genres go.

Except in my game. Not only shall the Colonies know the sweet taste of independence, but the Stars and Stripes will be flying over Canada.Dartzap wrote:Those US Colonies are going to be smote most hard, me thinks. Serves 'em right for that war crime against tea.
Why stop there? My Americans will be celebrating in London during a quick stopover on the way to Madrid, Paris, Berlin, and Moscow. If my computer doesn't have a heart attack trying to run it, anyway.RogueIce wrote:Except in my game. That's one advantage to the fact my computer would cry like a little bitch just running the loading screen: by the time I get it, there should be patches from CA to fix any of the more glaring problems.Stark wrote:Sorry, I zoned out watching it, just imagining all the things that will be broken on release. I'm sure the community will fix the FX themselves, lol!
People from the development team said that the tech tree allows you to have steam warships...but no iron clad.Enigma wrote:Will ironclads be buildable or is that from a later period?
Ironclads are waaaaaay out of the time frame, that's whyray245 wrote:People from the development team said that the tech tree allows you to have steam warships...but no iron clad.Enigma wrote:Will ironclads be buildable or is that from a later period?
Although I am proposing a mods to include ironclads AND battleships like the Prince of wales, Yamato and Iowa.Dartzap wrote:Ironclads are waaaaaay out of the time frame, that's whyray245 wrote:People from the development team said that the tech tree allows you to have steam warships...but no iron clad.Enigma wrote:Will ironclads be buildable or is that from a later period?
Do you seriously thing the engine would be capable of modeling that?ray245 wrote:Although I am proposing a mods to include ironclads AND battleships like the Prince of wales, Yamato and Iowa.
I've ask a few members of the CA development team down there...well they seems to think that a ironclad mod is possible.phongn wrote:Do you seriously thing the engine would be capable of modeling that?ray245 wrote:Although I am proposing a mods to include ironclads AND battleships like the Prince of wales, Yamato and Iowa.
Confederate Ironclad, perhaps. That's just a wooden ship with an iron skin, and only the Union ironclads had turrets. A real battleship, on the other hand, would require some pretty huge alterations to the system. I seriously doubt there's a facility already built into the game for shipboard guns to rotate on turrets.ray245 wrote:I've ask a few members of the CA development team down there...well they seems to think that a ironclad mod is possible.phongn wrote:Do you seriously thing the engine would be capable of modeling that?ray245 wrote:Although I am proposing a mods to include ironclads AND battleships like the Prince of wales, Yamato and Iowa.
There are other good candidates for early ironclads, like the French La Gloire, the world's first blue-water ironclad, which is much more closely related to the older ships of the line, as well as Britain's HMS Warrior, which was similar, but one step above an ironclad; the construction was entirely iron. Neither of those would particularly tax ETW's engine, I imagine. It's funny, people always talk about Monitor and Virginia, but only Monitor really was innovative and the Koreans had ironclads in the late 16th century.Darth Wong wrote:Confederate Ironclad, perhaps.
