Is Star Trek: Legacy worth buying?
Is it like Star Trek Bridge Commander with better graphics? Does it have a good storyline or allow you to interact with the crew? I just want to know before I buy it.
No.
It's terrible; imagine Freespace, but trapped on a quasi two-dimensional plane, with 360 controls and a terrible story. Even the multi/skirmish stuff is less amusing than Bridge Commander. The combat (ie shooting etc) is terrible and the mission setups are retarded.
The story is nonsense (although I couldn't play long enough to get out of the Enterprise part, and I hear 'Archer hates dem Vulcans' is quite accurate) and there's no crew interaction.
PS, wow, Chrome HATES the quick reply window.

I played the 360 demo and I was done after just 5 minutes. Shit-tacularly piss poor control scheme plus awkward gameplay do not a fun game make. Sorry, but including ships from every era of Trek isn't enough to save the game from itself. What's really sad is that some aspects of the game clearly draw inspiration from the old Starfleet Academy days, but the game is just so broken and unplayable it makes Klingon Academy look as polished as Gears of War in comparison.

The control system was the worst I've ever encountered. I'd strongly advise against buying or even borrowing it.

Oh jesus. I played the demo, and the quasi-two-dimensional thing was what pissed me off the most. Trying to pull up and over to get to the ship behind me... and suddenly I get shot back down the direction I was facing while the ship I *was* going to loop around on starts beating the shit out of me while I have to take a good 10-15 seconds to get out of that pointless loop, since it screws you over and cuts you off for no reason whatsoever.Stark wrote:No.

What dipshit decided that, that was ok? "I know! We'll inexplicably disallow the ships to fly up or down more than 60 degrees - or upside down. Nothing like totally arbitrary flight physics!"
Yeah, the game sucks.

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

They don't even have the excuse of "atmospheric flight physics."

Star Trek Legacy isn't even worth pirating.

Re: Is Star Trek: Legacy worth buying?
Damn thing ate my post. Trying again...
You fly one of four ships in your fleet around and shoot at enemies/objects. The ships themselves look very good; A+ on the ship models and textures. Planets are comically small (not sure why they did this), and your ships will literally slide off them. When you're in deep space, everything looks fine, though. The graphics are definitely the high point of this game.
Unfortunately, the gameplay's extremely repetitive. There is no tactical depth here whatsoever. The game plays like an extremely simplified flight simulator. The game is also quite easy. Even on the hardest difficulty, you'll never lose a ship if careful. That's not to say you won't fail missions, as your objectives are at times ambiguous, overly difficult, or both. You'll play 30 minutes into a mission, doing just fine, only to suddenly lose because of some asinine contrivance.
The game is also sorely lacking a custom skirmish feature. Want to see how the game handles the Enterprise versus the Reliant? Can't. Want to recreate Wolf 359? Can't. The skirmish mode only allows you to pit your fleet against the computer's, your fleets size and composition being regulated by a point buy system.
So is there anything good about the game? Well, I had some mindless fun flying the Enterprise around, shooting at stuff. It's neat deciding what ships to buy for your four-vessel fleet, and seeing how they handle. If you want a challenge, keep a Miranda-class vessel in your fleet into the TNG era (just like in the show), and try to keep it alive while fighting Romulan warbirds. It's not a very good game, but as for people saying it's utterly horrible, I disagree. I played the game on 360, and there are definitely worse games on the console. Considering that you can pick up Legacy for the price of an Xbox Live Arcade game, it's not that bad. It's not good either, but there are certainly worse games on the system.
The game is not buggy, broken, or unplayable, so it's not an F game. It's more a D, low C game. There's some fun to be had in it here and there. Given that you can buy it for the price of a drink, do so if you're looking to satiate your Trek fix.
To answer your questions, no, the storyline's nonsensical and irrelevant, and there is zero interaction with the crew.FuncoWilkerbean wrote:Is it like Star Trek Bridge Commander with better graphics?
