This is a thread for funny stories about stupid players. I had not heard of Leroy Jenkins until my friend showed me this video, and I became aware of a cultural icon.

Below is the situation that prompted the discussion.


This may come as a staggering shock to everyone, but I play a lot of halo 3.
I was in big team social the other day, and it was a match 3 to 9, with my team being outnumbered. We were on sandtrap, A large desert setting with a pyramid and some ruins in the middle, at which one flag is placed, and two MASSIVE vehicles that can circle slowly around, one of which contained the other flag.

our team had the pyramid, their team had an elephant, The elephant is a smaller target with less terrain obstructions but has two manned Turrets, and in this case, had a warthog and a ghost parked on it as well. The Warthog was jammed on TOP of the flag, and the ghost was to one side and both vehicles had their weapons pointing at the entrance. The entire red team was on this thing guarding the flag.

Now our blue team had already scored a point thanks to yours truly in the first five seconds of the game, but I knew there was NO chance our outnumbered team could score anotheronce the read team organized. i had made a second attempt and had not gotten close. given that two thirds of our team had spontaneously quit leaving us outnumbered.

I described a plan for defending our flag involving parking warthogs on the flag and creating a barrier of Mongooses to prevent the other team from being able to move the warthog easily. Combined with the narrow tunnels through which the other team would have to come, this has been effective in the past. instead, one team member sprinted off and my friend went off to follow him, hoping he could keep him from getting owned.

I didn't follow, and defended our flag as best I could, After my team mates consistently failed, the other team realized how small our numbers were and sent four or five people after our flag, When it was two to one, the winning score being three, I figured with the clock running down we would have a better chance off tying the game than winning it. I grabbed a ghost, some stickies and a bubble shield, AND managed to ebat down the returning flagholder, but upon returning to my own base I was mowed down by the five guys waiting for me.The game ended, and we lost.

They didn't stick to the plan!!

The only game I ever really play online anymore is Command and Conquer: Renegade. The server I play on as a 50 player marathon game, so there's no time limit and tank rushes (25 tanks or more, ideally) is common practice.

Basically, it takes a herculanian effort to keep all the noobs (a bafflingly large number for a game this old) from simply charging in without backup. Or, if you're sick of a crappy coordinator, just spam the "Move out" radio command and charge in, startling an avalanche of tanks attacking the enemy base.

Replace "Move out" with "Leroy Jenkins" and it's pretty much the exact same result.

never intentionally, but there's been times when I've joked about if I or someone else accidently pulled adds in WoW and ofc there's also been leeroys in the PuGs I've been but I've not done it.

Never.

I've killed probably millions of Leroy Jenkins tanks in WiC, however. I'm the anti-Jenkins.

This is basically how I play Team Fortress 2 as Scout. As no one can generally keep up, I Leeroy Jenkins myself and harass the other team indefinitely.

No, you're doing it wrong. You can't 'harrass' anyone. The only action available is 'run directly at a pile of far superior enemies, resulting in your immediate death and (for bonus points) the deaths of your surprised or vulnerable teammates'.

What you describe is just playing aggressively; to be 'like Leroy Jenkins' you have to IMMEDIATELY DIE and PISS OFF YOUR ENTIRE TEAM BY FAILING.

In that case than I cannot actually claim to play like Leeroy, usually.

Aaaaannnnnnd.... That's a wipe!

When I was new to raiding I aggro'd the mobs a couple times accidentally and led to a couple wipes, but that's different that Leeroy Jenkins-level stupidity. Jenkins should know better, but does it anyway, which is different from a person who's new and just learning.

What's funnier is that Leeroy and PALS FOR LIFE have said, the entire thing is staged. As a player, he's not even half bad.

As for dumbass moment, many many mistakes over drunk vent and raids. And people wonder why I quit the entire scene

the only thing that makes that movie worth while for me is at the very end where Leroy goes "At least I got chicken"

.....for some reason I find that line funny.

Back in my WoW days I did once decide to take Ragnaros alone. Was late, I was tired as hell, and then the raidleader says "Okay, everyone to positions", and I run to the usual melee dps spot... Nevermind that it's half a metre behind Raggy and we weren't supposed to start just quite yet. Everyone has his moments .

Closest I've come was the first time I went into the 20-man troll raid-- Zul'farrak? Misspelling it. It's been a while. Anyway, I was going to be bear-tanking one of the mobs in the snake boss fight and I didn't realize my raid leader for whatever reason expected all the tanks to line up next to each other before pulling the mobs -- I was just sitting around waiting for everyone else to get their instructions. Also, he'd told me I'd be pulling the group with feral faerie fire.

The raid leader says, "Tal, are you going to wait all day?" so I said "Oh, sorry, I didn't realize we were ready" and faerie fired the snake I was supposed to tank.

That's when the OH SHIT screams started on vent. Apparently, that was a "Tal, are you going to wait all day before lining up with the rest of the tanks?" not a "Tal, are you going to wait all day before pulling the mob?" It turned out fine (we won the fight easily) but I got bitched out by the guild leader, who was not amused when I pointed out to him that his instructions were vague and easily-misunderstood for someone who hadn't raided before and hadn't done even any 5-mans with him running the show.

Woops.

I have a couple of times, mostly on City of Heroes when I was WAY too freaking tired.

A half-asleep Spines/Regen scrapper with superspeed may not be too squishy, but he can certainly make a fight more interesting when he accidentally drags in the current mob's ten or fifteen friends from across the hall.

Oh, and I freaking LOVE the Elephant on that map! It's so uselessly slow, but I love taking it over with a couple of friends on the turrets and very sloooooowly fleeing in a Zombie-type game.

I don't play MMOs, so can't really comment, but occassionally, inspired by St. Leeroy, I'll teamsay in COD, "WATCH THIS FELLAHS" and run into the exposed position firing wildly into the air. Sometimes there's a payoff and I make it across to cover, while the bad guys expose themselves and my team scores a few frags.

Generally I wind up dead.

Being Leeroy Jenkins is easy. Counter-Strike has a "zombie mod", and if you look remotely like you know what you are doing you will have people follow you from one horde of zombies to the next. Depending on the difficulty of the server, you will likely die when you encounter that horde.

Also the shitty AI really aids in having the "room full of monsters" required for a Jenkins scenario.

and be the only person who would have benefitted from the situation in the first place, although I didn't catch that at the first viewing, any my own example doesn't quite meet that criteria.
