Help me not suck at Madden mini-games.

The fucking weight lifting minigame flips out on me all the time, keeps saying that I've aborted the lifts etc. What is going on? Anyone got a good technique for this particular drill, as I'd like to not have someone who can only do 1 lift as a superstar...
