Memory and hard drive space on the XBox 360

RI and I are thinking about getting an XBox 360 to play a few games: Madden, GTA and Rock Band 2. There may be more in the future, but those are the ones we definitely want. We were looking at the different versions of the XBox 360. We're definitely not getting the Elite version, but we want a version that will hold plenty of saved games and downloads. I was planning to download quite a few songs for Rock Band 2, plus I might get the original Rock Band and export the songs.

The Arcade version comes with a 256 MB flash drive to hold these things. The Premium version, which is $100 more expensive, comes with a 60 GB hard drive, of which I think 54 GB is usable.

Will we be able to store all of our saved games and songs on the flash drive, or should we get the more expensive Premium version? How big is a typical Rock Band song file?

Go for the hard drive if you plan to download a lot of patches and the like. I used 256 megs for each map pack for Halo 3 and CoD4.[/i]

The flash drive will not have sufficient room for DLC if you plan on using Rock Band 2. Just shell out for the 360 Pro and you'll be good if you want to get anything resembling a decent amount of DLC in the future.

I have Rock Band 2 and a 20 gb hard drive. I have 2 gbs of space left. I reeeeally suggest getting the 60 gb or even the 120 gb editions.

The average Rock Band song tends to be about 30-40 megabytes, and stuff like the Who pack is around 650 or something. If you get export the songs from Rock Band 1 to your hard drive to play in Rock Band 2, that will also take up about 1.52 gigabytes but you can go back and delete ones you don't like.

Go for the 60GB edition, if you plan on doing a lot of DLC.

The 256 is ok for your save games...don't get the 20gb, you'll find yourself running short of space if you do alot of siong DLC, game demos and trailers.

OK, so it looks like the flash drive won't work. What about buying a used Premium XBox 360? It used to come with 20 GB instead of 60 GB. The 60 GB version has only been out for about a month so I'm not expecting to find any used versions of that. AFAIK, about 6 GB is taken up by system stuff. Would 14 GB of usable space be enough?

Edit: Oops, didn't see DarkSilver's post before I posted. So 20 GB isn't enough? I'm not planning on downloading trailers and I probably won't use demos, but I'll probably have a lot of downloaded songs for Rock Band.

Personally I find it best to get the highest end model you can afford. That way you won't be kicking yourself later if you run out of room or such and need to upgrade. :D
