XP is fucked in the butthole

Attempting to boot yields a BSOD that appears for a split second before the PC posts again.
Is there anyway to either fix this or else reinstall windows whilst preserving my data?

Yes, do a repair install from your Windows XP disc.

Hit F8 a bunch while it's booting until you get to the 'what the hell are you hitting F8 for, boy?' menu, then select 'Disable automatic restart on system failure.' That'll give you a good look at the bluescreen, find out exactly what the problem is. Sometimes repair installs fix things, sometimes they don't.

Do this -
It could be a video driver issue.
Or it could be bad RAM - try swapping out RAM, one stick at a time and see if it ever boots.
This is, of course, all dependent on what the blue-screen actually says.
