ipod help needed!

I recently crushed the screen of my ipod, which makes it kind of hard to use in a reasonable manner. It still works though, so I'd like to get all the songs off of it. Here's my complication: I added the songs on an itunes on a computer which I no longer have access to (it's at home and I'm at college). So, how do get the songs off the ipod and onto this other itunes that is running on my laptop here? No, drag and drop does not work.

Hm, that's strange. When I wanted to take the audiobooks off the Nano I have, I set the computer to show hidden folders and files. They should be visible to be able to copy but they don't have their original file names but at least they can be copied off.

If that was what you did, I'm clueless. :angelic:

Oh, yeah, I can recover the files directly like that, but I want to import them into the itunes on this computer, without having to go through and rename everything.

When you transfer the songs onto your computer and add them into iTunes, the tags will still be there. You'll see the names of the songs.

Hey, I've got a question about iPods. My mom has one of the tiny Shuffles and I recently got called to come check in on it since my brother who set it up for her headed back to college and the computer died, so she transferred her MP3's to a new computer and now it's not working right. I can either wait for him to come back, or I can try to fix it, but I really don't know anything about them so I'm not even sure where to start looking.

I tested hte hardware connection and it seemed fine. Plugged into a regular USB port, I would plug in the little shuffle to it's dock, and the hardware on the computer would recognize it as a storage device, and I'd open up iTunes. I could view the music in the iPod, play a song or two, but when I tried to move things onto the iPod the iTunes program would pause for a bit (no spinning ball or hourglass?) and then it would say something about not being synced and forget the iPod was plugged in.

From what I can tell it's a software issue. I'm guessing that the iPod can only be "synced" to one computer at a time, or that one copy of iTunes can only "sync" to one iPod at a time? Or something?

Do I need to install some additional iPod Shuffle software managers for the music, or do I need to set up a new profile for her?

I'm not sure if this will work but you can use Winamp to manage the songs on your iPod. Now I know for a fact that you can ADD songs to the iPod via Winamp but I don't know if you can copy them to the Desktop with it. Might be worth it to try.

If you have software that reads ID3 tags and renames files accordingly, then it's not a problem to grab them off the iPod and still have the filename readable by humans. Check sourceforge, as there's too many options to list here.

Hell, if you wanted, I could right one with java tomorrow, as I have most of the hard work done already.

Well friends, in the past, I've plugged in my ipod on the primary computer and another computer in my house. Both had itunes installed. However, whenever I plugged my ipod into the second computer, the files were erased off my ipod. Therefore, I had to plug it into the primary computer to retrieve the files again. How can I successfully sync my ipod on two computers? Thank you so much.

I don't think you can.

You can either use a non-itunes client (there are gillions of open source ones) or do what I do and keep the music on network storage so there's no need to sync on different computers.

You can use options to stop it auto-syncing (which I thought pretty much everyone did) and you can easily charge it on another computer, but each 'library' is separate and cannot be merged on an ipod. Just merge them yourself.

I could say anyone stupid enough to click 'ok' when it says 'this ipod contains another music library and syncing will erase all music' deserves what they get, but I'm feeling nice.
