So my Win XP Pro OS on my desktop screwed on me recently and I had to do some file backup. But I can't access the "My Document" folder on my laptop, as I have this "Access denied" error message. Does anyone know how to get around this?

Take ownership of the directory (you may have to turn off Simple File Sharing first) and then edit the permissions.
