Some day I will get both of course. but Fallout 3 is coming out next Tuesday, Farcry 2 is out now. My computer can handle both. Which should I gamble my money on?

I've been playing Far Cry 2, and it's pretty awesome, but I have a feeling Fallout 3 is going to be engaging for a lot longer based on Bethesda's previous games.
However, it's probably a good idea to actually wait until it comes out so people who've actually played it can say something about it (unless someone here wants to admit having downloaded the xbox version).

They're totally different games. If you can't choose between a bland level-em-up and a shooter, you need more than a poll to help you.
Just buy FC2, and if it doesn't spin your dial return it for F3. Problem solved.

I'm personally leaning towards Fallout 3 just because I loved the previous games, but I'll probably wait for a Demo before commiting to it.

Stark I don't play first person shooters on consoles much like I don't drive my car with my elbows.
There is no "returning" in PC gaming. I'm getting it via Steam, so Farcry II now, or Fallout III for playing on Tuesday. Downloading now, playing on my next day off.

So does that mean you're not buying a game you might like because you are waiting to see if maybe you like another one? Jesus christ.
I'm somewhat biased in that Bethesda has never made a good game, but both games interest me and I don't need to wrack my soul over such a tough decision, lol.

See this is the issue with you Stark, while someone else might make arguments about Bethesda's track record of making good games with MASSIVE GLARING FLAWS or more often bugs. While arguing that Farcry II is a "good game which could of been great but is only good"
Instead I get a Bile-off from you, which is about as useful as asking the deranged hobo who lives down the lane about if I should vote for Truman or Dewey.
The next time I can sit down and play me some video games is Tuesday. Fallout III is being released on Tuesday, Farcry is available now. But regardless I won't be playing it until Tuesday. Fallout might offer me much more game for my dollar but not offer me much in the way of good gameplay. Just lots and lost of fetch quests in Oblivion-Gun Mod. Or it might be worse, it might be Redguard with guns! IE carp . It could have game devistating bugs, it could have all sorts of things wrong with it.
Or it could have things right with it and be a great game.
My question is, should I gamble on a possibly Great game(On the Bean Great to Crap scale with it running Great, to Good to Okay to Crap with very, somewhat and kinda on each level)
From all the reviews and comments here, Farcry falls in the kinda Good to somewhat Good area but does not hit very good or greatness due to dumb AI issues. Fallout meanwhile offers and unknown. It's not going to be crap, it's not going to be kinda Okay. There have not been enough negative previous to get a crap game at this stage. And from what I hear from people with gold copies it runs the gamete from kinda Good to super fucking Great.
I'm not wracking my soul(Which FYI, don't have one), I'm more placing a bet on how bad or good Fallout is going to be. Meanwhile I'm off to sleep, dazzle me sir if you care enough to change my opinion either way.

If I were you, I would go for Far Cry 2. My impression from reviews that it's a good game that's playable right out of the box and you can always screw around with the level editor.
If Bethasda did F3 the same way it did Oblivion, you will want a bunch of mods to make the game playable. It might be more worthwhile to get it once it drops in price a bit and patched. The more complex a sandbox game gets, the more likely it will have bugs. Try to string a shooter and a RPG game together, that can be pretty complex.

Sorry bout that Bean; you instaposted me. I was replying to Lord Oskuro's thingo, not yours. Did they turn the 'someone replied' thing off? One day, I'll start quoting like a normal person.
And doesn't EB have a return policy in the US? It's a hilariously broken unconditional seven days in AU, with predictable consequences.
Does anyone know how consolified F3 is going to be? I mean, I know about the pathetic sop to the dickless crowd with turn-based combat, but Far Cry has a fair bit of 'obvious port of a console game' stuff. Will F3 be the same, keeping in mind that a fair slice of the PC crapness in Oblivion was due to the 360 port (ie, awful UI instantly fixed by modders, dumb controls, etc)?

Everywhere I've bought games or heard of games being bought in the US there is absolutely no returning PC games once they've been opened. Big places (Hastings being the only game in town around here, sadly) won't even take console games back; they'll just replace them if a copy is "defective".

I'd get Farcry 2 now, and then by the time you finish that you will have had plenty of feedback on F3/time to save up cash to decide whether you want a new game or not.
Personally, I bought FC2 yesterday for my PS3 and will buy F3 next friday, although I have very little free time indeed to play them at the moment.

Its hard to say, having only played Far Cry 2, and not fallout 3. I was looking forward to Fallout 3 more myself, but Far Cry 2 is very fun. If you want to play an FPS, go Far Cry 2; if you want a more traditional RPG with lots of quests and a deep story I'd say Fallout 3.

Definition of 'deep story' may vary; I present the wafer-thin repetitive nonsensical rubbish that is 'Oblivion' as evidence.
Far Cry is a lot better than I'd expected; it's surprisingly fluid and low on downtime for the kind of sandbox thing it is - contrast with STALKER which appears designed to increase downtime as much as possible.

Actually, I rarely buy new releases, I give them time to prove themselves, and often resort to demos (or borrow the game from a friend) to get a feel of the thing. I don't mind waiting, and have no need to throw money away.

If I were you I'd wait a few days after F3 is released to make my decision. If, after reading a lot of interweb buzz, Fallout 3 looks more like the game you'd like to play around now I'd say go for it.

Yeah, this happens to me all the time. I'm a 'quick reply' slut.

I can dig this, but there's been pretty much zero good games all year. Now there's (potentially) like four in a month, so you should have been saving!
And yes Ohma, they put time-pausing turn-based combat in F3.

Oh,
that's what you were talking about. Yeah, I think I agree with you on that (if I understand your position on it), I personally can't really bring myself to be all that excited about glorified bullet time with percentages attached...plus where's the fun in that if I can't shoot some dumbass raider in the groin?
I mean, I'm not like, against the idea that Bethesda could have made a good game with Fallout 3, or even that they could've made a good Fallout game, but I dunno...going by how uninspiring both the gameplay and story of Oblivion were I'm not really holding out a lot of hope there...

I think that's pretty ballsy of you to mention Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 and to just arbitrarily dismiss RA3!
I mean, the C&C games have a great history of...
...Well, in the recent past they...
..Yeah, there hasn't been a decent C&C game since RA2.

I definitely wouldn't consider Fallout 3 at the moment. Maybe it's because I'm cheap, maybe it's because I have no faith in Bethesda, but even the dogs in the street know never to buy a Bethesda game within the first six months to a year of release.
For a start vanilla is guaranteed to be a buggy piece of crap (remember how broken Oblivion vanilla was?) second in the next year you can be guaranteed that Bethesda will release 1 or 2 expansions so if you wait a year you can buy the gold edition with the 2 extra expansion packs for the price of getting the game on release.
I'm investing in Red Alert 3, not for any ground breaking game play, we all know C&C has been a shell of it's former self since RA2, but it suits my needs for 2 reasons. 1 it's my dads birthday soon and he is a C&C fanboy of the highest order and second
Gemma Atkinson.

Oh, come on, Bean. You know you loved Oblivion (eventually) and you getting in on the ground floor of Fallout 3 will make you happy.
