Google Analytics

A few weeks ago I added google-analytics tracking to my blog. One day, I received three visitors, but apart from that, all the charts point to an absolute ZERO.
Which is quite funny, because I can name about five people who check out my website on daily basis. I myself access the site few times a day, using different IP's (at work, at home, etc.)
Can anyone explain me how Google-Analytics works? Does it only count clicks via google search engine, or have I misconfigured something?
