I am looking to upgrade my graphics card. Currently have Nvidia Geforce 8500GT 512mb card. I would like to replace it but not exactly sure which one to go for and wether or not my pc can even handle something better.
I have an HP a6500f dual core with 4gigs of ram.

AMD HD4850 or 4870 are nice choices, along with NVidia 9800GTX and Geforce 260. Note that there are two types of Geforce 260 out there.
There is the question of budget though.

Well, if you want to go to the top, you either grab the 4870 X2 (not sure if that is out) or the Geforce 280. Take your pick.

Hum the 280 requires a pci express 2.0x16 slot mine has
1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x16
and 2 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x1
And both would require me to upgrade my power supply.

What is your power supply rated for?
You could get a 4670 and not need to upgrade your PSU, whatever it is.
