Scandisk gets stuck. What the crap?

Ok, so when I run Scandisk it gets all the way up to the last test and then gets stuck at 39%. I left it for a few hours like that, and it seems to be genuinely stuck. I get the exact same thing when I run the feature from other programs like TuneUp Utilities. Safemode also doesn't seem to help it.
Any ideas?

Try running it at bootup time before any programs start. To do that, open a command prompt and type:
And that will schedule it to run at next boot. Then restart your computer.

Open a command prompt before Windows boots up?

No, open a command prompt in windows, then type that code, then the next time you boot the computer it will run automatically. Sorry for not being clear.

No. While Windows is running, open a command prompt (type 'cmd' in run or look it up under accessories in the start menu), type "chkdsk /f," and restart your computer.

Roger that!
Ok, I restarted and it ran the test. Windows started normally after that. Was it supposed to give me the result?

The results will be in the event log (Application log, I think, in an event with the source "WinLogon").

If it didn't find anything wrong, it wouldn't give a result. Most likely your computer is fine and it's just a program interfering with the scandisk process. If you want to make sure, you could try running in safe mode and see if it still gets stuck.

I recently had the reverse problem - ScanDisk running at startup froze at 11%, but running it within Windows allowed it to succeed. Try running it on startup if it's freezing within the OS, and within the OS if it's freezing at startup.
