Transfering files from linux to mac

Post by Braedley »

Specifically, from my Ubuntu box to my sister's macbook. Samba was my first choice, but that doesn't seem to want to work, for various reasons. My next preferred method is putting the mac into target disk mode and just dragging and dropping, but the entire drive is read only, despite the fact that I've set folder permissions in OSX such that I should be able to write to them. I've even tried chowning a drop box folder to no avail. Any ideas as to how I can do this quickly and easily?

What kind of file sizes are we talking about here? If you're talking hundreds of gigs of stuff a regular external drive might be the way to go.

The Linux HFS+ driver cannot write to journaled HFS+ partitions. You could set up your Linux machine as an NSF or netatalk (AppleTalk) server as well.

That would do it. It wasn't making sense why I couldn't write to a drop box folder, but that explains it.

That's more work than I wanted to do. It's a moot point now anyways, my sister's in China by now. She just wanted some videos to watch on the plane.
