Ace Combat

It is probably one of those questions that begs a stupid answer (go buy a console) but I was wondering whether you can play any of the Ace Combat games on the PC? I've been looking at the trailers, reading reviews and this game reminds me of the old Top Gun game which was kinda good.

So, did anyone ever did a port? Or maybe there is a smart way to emulate those games on PC? Any thoughts?

Playstation emulators work fairly well these days so you can probably emulate the first three games in the series if you want to try them. The later ones would be substantially more difficult and I'm pretty sure that there's never been an official PC port of an Ace Combat game.

EDIT: Apparently Ace Combat 4 is playable using PCSX2. I've never tried it, though.

Note to everyone: While PCSX2 is wallowing on the fair side of legal, I will be watching this thread carefully. I don't want to see anyone taking the opportunity to offer any nudge-nudge wink-wink suggestions about anything that would encourage me to deal out a MODERATOR SMASH.

None of the Ace Combat games have been ported to PC.

However, you could probably get a PS2 for the price of a bag of chips, and that will play every game from 1 to Zero.

Without the benefit of knowing the franchise, that last line looks goofy as hell.

Especially since there was no Ace Combat 1. Ace Combat 2 was the sequel to a game named Air Combat.

Well to be fair the game was originally named Ace Combat. It's just the first US release was called Air Combat. I think they wanted to tie the game into the Air Combat arcade games.

I wasn't aware of that. Judging by the shots on the page you linked to, the arcade Air Combat game does look like a more primitive version of the Ace Combat series. Maybe this is what Operation Katina was based on.

As Vendetta suggested the best way to go would be getting a PS2 since using that emulator is of questionable legality. You could probably get pt 2, 3, 4, 5 & 0 for about ~$60 on half.com.

Can't confirm compatibility with any other games, but the Hori Flightstick 2 (if you can find it) was a USB "hands on throttle and stick" (HOTAS) joystick bundled with limited editions of AC5.

You should be fine getting any of the games used... but take a pass on 6.
