My DVD/CD-roms are all dead(And my external USB's)

So out of left field my My Computer list got alot smaller today at it's seem's my old Plextor CD/R burner "can not be found". Nor can my 20$ Sony DVD drive is also not registering.

So I troubleshoot and ahah, both are IDE, is it an IDE issue? Check it with another computer, they both are detected fine. So on to the next step, is my system because my external newish Plextor DVD/RW drive is also not reading as working. And it's external using USB it can't be read either.

So I look for Viruses(None) Maleware(None), run Avaria and Malwarebytes, throw in a spybot and cross check it with my free company issued copy of Symatech after checking everything was updated, nothing. So... chipset driver issue? Except fuck if I can FIND the drivers anywhere. The Gigabyte EP45-DS3L is my motherboard and all total there's about 10 megs with of driver downloads on their website. While the install CD comes with drivers which are about 90 meg driver files so it an generic driver issue? What the hell is going on here?

Are you running XP, Vista 32, or Vista 64?

Do the drives show up in the BIOS?

Do they show up in device manager? If so, do they have any error codes?

1. XP 32-Bit
2. Yes they show up in Bios and on the self test
3. They show up in device manager but with yellow ! marks as "can not be found"
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

That's easy enough to fix, but iTunes may not work afterwords. Open the registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, and Control, then click on 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 and delete the upper and lower filters, then restart the computer. Everything should work fine after that.

No such luck, still not being detected.

A program (usually iTunes) on your computer installed a piece of helper-software to help it burn cds and it f-ed up your drivers. Deleting the registry entry fixed it, but it took a moment to reinstall the drivers. It's a pretty common issue with iTunes or any other program that installs that helper-software.
