Battlefield Heroes [beta]

I've been playing it about a week in the Gamespot "semi-open" beta thing and it's brilliant. I absolutely love it. It's fun, fast and not frustrating. The "real money" aspect of it is purely optional (and I won't "buy" a time limited bit of clothing) and damned if the game doesn't just work really well.
Is anyone else in on this?

I definitely want to try it. Looking at gameplay videos reminds me of those sweet Team Fortress Classic days, with fast and casual gameplay.
I just signed up for a beta key. I will definitely try it when I get a slot.

I signed up - BF1942 was the first Multiplayer FPS I played post-Tribes that I really, really enjoyed and I've been waiting for this to come out for a long time. I'd forgotten about it, actually, so thanks for reminding me, Anders! Here's to hoping I snag a key soon, because, well....just...because, dammit.

*whistles the quite jaunty theme song*
I've got a level 8 soldier now - I wish that you could just have a level 8 character and change classes at will, but the whole design goes against that. What I have been enjoying is coming top 2-3 on the servers regularly during matches. It's nice to be ahead of the curve in a MP game for once.

Now that I've got the hang of murdering people with the shotgun, my kill counts are going up - I just led the team on my last match. Go Nationalists!

I want my MP44.
I've been playing it on again off again. Is there a look around command anywhere for tanks or planes without turning your turret?

Hold on, there Nationalists not Facists
FYI, I'm pretty sure this game is so Cartoony it will draw outcry from some WWII Vet group because it is so silly.
OAN, I hate the random sound effects, I can't tell when I'm hitting or missing in a plane except when I get XP, and better still, the same sound my gun makes when I fire and hit near an enemy is the same sound effect when enemies are shooting at ME and missing but barely.
Also this game suffers from AA syndrome, in that the AA guns have the range of your average BB gun.
On the plus side? Best AA gun in the game? A Commando with a sniper rifle and his supershot perk activated. If you hit you can knock 60% of the heath off a plane.
Have a 4, a 5 and a 6. Going to make a German Commando and focus on him.

I've also had luck with a tommy gun and fire bullets. Half a clip and the plane goes crashedyboo as the pilot is ON FIRE.

I got in.
Being in Australia and not being able to choose your server sucks though. Curse you first worlders with your running water and constant electricity and so on.
But pretty fun, other than the aforementioned inevitable lag. It's pretty hard to hit things if you don't know your ping.

Ok played a game last night against several other people but one of them was a level 14 Commando(The rest of us where 5-8s). He was able with three to four shots blow up the plane. Not down it, blow it up. Using the high damage sniper rifle(40-60 damage a shot) add in the ability that boosts sniper damage and I watched him shoot me once, bam from 190 heath to 130 heath, bam now I'm at 80 heath, bam now I'm at 15 and on fire. Before I could think of ejecting, I went kaboom.
The people who you think should be good at shooting down planes the Gunner class? Suck balls at it.
On the plus side, maxed out stealth is fun. Stabby stabby

Actually, despite my own antipodean location I have only had a few lag issues. It's most noticeable when opening your parachute or bailing out of a vehicle. But I've still been able to own the server rankings, the game compensates for lag fairly well in it's basic structure and weapon mechanics.

Fun game for an intended freebie--loads fast, little lag, surprisingly balanced, but I tell you, I am sick of the fucking thing BSODing me every half hour. Just as I start to get into a satisfying pace and start to relax, bam! BSOD and back to reboot time! It's really that bad. Page-faults occasionally, but usually D3D errors and RendDX9.dll errors all over the place.
If someone could design a crash handler so that a graphics driver crash wouldn't kill my ENTIRE system, I'd pay them a king's ransom. I'd pay the same to EA if they could acutally fix this fun but stupidly buggy Beta sometime before these BSODs cause my hard-drive to implode.
If they can fix it, this'll be an interesting trend. But sweet merciful science are the crashes ever common, and awful.
