Got trapped by ActiveX

I clicked on a link that when it came up, a prompt appeared on the screen saying I didn't have ActiveX control and to hit OK to install it. I hit "Cancel" but another prompt came up with only OK as an option, and it brought back the prompt to install ActiveX. I was stuck, unable to click on anything else, so I couldn't close Firefox or even the tab. So I hit "OK" and then closed the tab as fast as possible. Nothing else happened, and everything returned to normal. Am I safe?

Not sure, worth checking your browser for new installed ActiveX objects and such. Next time, just kill the process.

Next time try Ctrl+Shift+Esc and terminate the browser entirely.

You have Firefox, you don't have to worry about ActiveX. What you got caught in is a JavaScript loop. There was a script on the page that popped up the yes/no dialog box, then another one that triggers as soon as you hit the no button or x button and popped up the OK box, then another one that popped up the yes/no box again. Unfortunately there's no way the break the loop.

Try Adblock or Noscript. Or you could refuse to go to that site ever again. Also, try filing a report about it with Web of Trust.
