Twilight the MMO (I wish I were kidding)

Post by OmegaChief »

It really sucks that this winds up being my first proper thread here, but it seems someone has had the bright idea to make a Twilight MMO.

Quite frankly I'm at a loss for words right now, but here's the article:
Because absolutely no license goes unturned these days, we've gotten word that there will, indeed, be a Twilight MMO.

Details are pretty sketchy right now on what exactly this whole experience will entail. It will be a virtual world where you get to play as either a human, vampire, or werewolf -- that much is pretty known. The game will also be an open, non-linear world set around the town of Forks, Washington, that will let the player roam freely.

Of note is the functionality of the game's journal, which is said to work not only like a novel, but also as a way to teleport back and forth through time to experience the events written inside of it.

The game is still early in-development, so we'll keep an eye on it for you as more information is released. Now where's our Harry Potter MMO, hmmm? We want a wizarding war!
Here's a link to the article itself, which has some more links for additional information (If you're that morbidly curious)
http://www.massively.com/2009/07/28/the ... mo-coming/

This makes me ask, is there anything they won't consider trying to make an MMO of these days?
This odyssey, this, exodus. Do we journey toward the promised land, or into the valley of the kings? Three decades ago I envisioned a new future for our species, and now that we are on the brink of realizing my dream, I feel only solitude, and regret. Has my entire life's work been a fool's crusade? Have I led my people into this desert, only to die?

I've thought long and hard about this and the only thing that comes to mind is.... Zombies, and it's a shame because I'd love a good End of the World Zombie Apocalypse MMO. But I'm sure someone will love the idea of Sparkle Vampires VS Werewolves VS Humans.

In fact dare I say it I might be interested in this MMO if only I can be a Human will a flamethrower running around to interrupt all the RPing Sparklebunnies. This in fact may be the first MMO where I want to play it, specifically to Grief my fellow players. Griefing happens in all games, but this may be the first MMO I've heard about where I am uninterested in the game but very interested in the Griefing.

Prehaps I have finally discovered what all those Profanity spewing twelve year old on Xbox Live know, that being an asshole can be both fun and rewarding.

I'm sorry, but I have to second the motion. How come there's a Twilight MMO in the works and not a Harry Potter MMO?!

Heh, anyway, it'll probably just be a themed chatroom with 3d avatars that people have to pay to join.

Awesome!!!

Truly this is a yaoi fanfic dream come to life for all the Twilight fans. I wonder if levels will be translated into sparkles. Like the more sparklely you are, the more awesome you are. Or maybe it'll be like Second Life with SPARKLES!!!!

Or if you're the lustful yet rebel but don't want to sparkle...you can be the brooding werewolf! You can now have a long and mournful relationship with a sparkley manpire and suck face!

The possibilities are indeed endless and I await to see this game produced.

I am curious, why is zombies out of bounds for an MMO ?

If it is just the gore aspect then that is pretty retarded since A) make it age restricted or B) restrict the gore

As for this piece of shit game. I watched movie and I honestly dont see anything there worth making an MMO for unless the books are substantially better this is perhaps the worst MMO concept I have ever heard of.

If this kinda of crap is going through then when is the Terminator MMO coming out and I have to admit even a Harry Potter MMO would work better than this.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the gore, after all AoC prided itself at bringing gore and nudity to the MMO scene and got published with not that many problems. Protests about nipples aside that is.

It's probably that no one is willing, or that dev's would seek acceptance from zombie nerds who need to STFU or any number of reasons. I support it being made, because it seems it would be awesome.

Time travel in an MMO. Isn't that number 1 in features that are impossible to balance?

Nope- it is like printing money!

The movie is supposed to be better.

I have to point out that the comments are priceless. You have the sheer disbelief in the first link and the cheerleading in the second.

That time-travel gimmick seems to be perfect setup for an instance.

I predict crash and fail after the producers realize that they really have no material to work with and a fanbase that is too braindead to - oh crap... it's going to succeed because of said braindead fanbase...

Well, until it fails miserably within 6 months or less as it's subscribers realize that they're paying money, monthly, for a probably bug riddled, generic as hell, and most importantly BORING game that's only claim to fame is it's name. Shortly thereafter, CCP releases it's World of Darkness MMO and soaks up the disaffected player base with some vague form of uniqueness.

By 'it's subscribers' you mean 'vapid, vacuous trendster idiots with no idea what 'gaming' is and who want to play at being SO HAWWWWT', right?

Captive market + generic game = money.

I love how people are prepared to bag this game as 'bug riddled' and 'generic' WHEN IT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST and yet I'm a big bad man for saying games are bad.

Oh sorry Twilight bashing, omg people are so dumb, this game will suck, what are they thinking??!

Is my nerd cred high now?

Man, who can read that and get 'time travel'? They're just talking about instances from the book. Ooooh, I ported to chapter 3! Now I'm in Book 4! IMPOSSIBLE TO BALANCE!

I over reached and thought they were talking about an MMO charcteristic instead of... well, reading. Who brags about the act that their game has cutscenes?

It's not like time travel would be particularly hard to pull off in an MMO, just look at FFXI Online which has multiple "epic" storylines which all greatly alter the entire gameworld, complete with time travel back to the past. (and the power to change shit in the current world by altering stuff in the past, etc). And multiple people at different stages in the different story lines will see the world differently, have access to different areas, etc, etc.

It's not like it requires anything more elaborate than adding multiple instanced of each area to represent "the past" "future" "now" "3 minutes ago" etc. And for most places you can use the exact same terrain, just with a few NPC swaps, different music, etc.

Viking, some examples? I mean, I've not noticed any such things while I play the game these last two years, and the two years at launch.

Yeah, with the last major Expansion, there's the Shadow Reign areas that are set during the Crystal War 20 years before the main story.

And there're some places that can't be accessed until you've done other things.

So the options are

1)Vampire - sparklyness, super-speed and strength, effectively no weaknesses (you have to be dismembered then burned to be killed in the novel at least - no idea what will happen with game mechanics), special powers;

2)Werewolf - presumably strong enough to fight vampires;

3)Human - huh?

Who would want to be a human in such a MMO? You're basically meat to the other two.

Well, if this was a parody you'd get access to every werewolf and vampire hunting gear ever made in fiction.

What if you just dismember the vampire and store the little bits in different concrete blocks and drop them into widely-separated bodies of water?

Urban dead is a text based turned based game. Yes it's Massive but it's not multiplayer and it's so damn random it's not even funny.

I mean a true MMO a MMOFPS with buildings, sewer systems, a Makeshift weapon invention system and hordes on hordes of zombies. I want 10km by 10km zones with gas impossible to find and zombies everywhere, with ammo dear and food and water a requirement.

You know, for the kids!

That was what I was thinking too. Human's in twilight are even worse off than in Buffy you couldn't have a team like Angels going around kicking ass and taking names. Well unless there going to take Aro's line from the last book that humans are rapidly getting to and may have gotten to the point they are a threat that is.

Maybe the humans get magic or something, there are hints here and there it is possible for humans to have magic powers.

Example: Bella and Alice had there special abilities before getting sparklefied.
