Hi,
Does anybody have any tips for somebody thinking of joining this game? Please leave your opinions
and advice for all of us.

Take the discs down to the nearest skeet shooting range, put them in the launchers, and shoot them. Don't even wait for them to launch, just shoot them right in the cradles. I guarantee, that will be way more fun than you'll ever have playing Star Wars Galaxies.

What on earth?
The game was cool around when it was released and for about 6 months after that... but that was a long time ago. I cannot fathom why anyone would even consider having anything to do with SWG now. Just forget you even posted this topic, you'll live a healthier life for it.

Their are people who still play SWG? Even after NGE took it from 'boring shit' to 'unplayably boring shit'? I still remember hearing about SWG's announcement back before Episode 2 was released and how Everquest nerds everywhere were going happily apeshit over the idea. I played the trial back before NGE and really liked the exploration and size of the maps. But lost interest pretty quickly, because like all MMO's you couldn't really go far before the Mutant Lord of Womp Rats decides to skull fuck you.
These days it's so old and formulaic that I don't think I could bear even the trial.

This.
Last month they had the game on free play and I gave it a go to see if anything had improved. It hadn't, or at least not enough to actually consider paying for the game, not to mention all the RMT shit they introduced. The game's an appalling pile of shit trying hard to be a sci-fi copy of WoW and failing miserably. Save your money, if you really want to play an MMO you can do a
lot better.

Hilariously Sony puts zero effort into patching it anymore. All they do is maintain the servers and put the absolute minimum of effort into running it. It's virtually abandon ware at this point. Of course, SOE is nearly out of business as it is. They laid off something like 40% of their staff around last year.

What I recommend is waiting on the Bioware Star Wars MMO coming out soon. It might not be great, but it can't very well be worse than SWG.
I played Galaxies back when it first came out...it had serious flaws then, and from what I've heard it has since gone downhill.

I still remember when SWG was being talked about on ASVS way back when during the initial PR releases of "New Star Wars MMO"; in the halycon days of "before Warcraft".
We had visions of making our own ASVS town/city/whatever.

When SWG came out I was addicted...because I coudl freakin be the supplier of every non-combat related item imagineable. I was rich out the yingyang with mineral harvesting up and down the sands of Tatooine, a supply chain that reached across the galaxy and I was happy. I adventured a little but my joy was in the crafting engine which I really enjoyed. I adventured for limited crafting recipes only.
After NGE it just died, even flying in space was no longer fun. So yes destroy the discs and you will lead a much happier life.

That's the real shame about SWG: It was goddamn brilliant, and then they systematically pissed it all away in a slow spiral of swirling shit. Kind of like a toilet, really.
