Assassin's Creed 2 Short Film

Didn't see this posted elsewhere.

Part 1 of 3 of a short film set a few years prior to Assassin's Creed 2.

Spoiler
It seems strange that an assassin is now working directly for the government. Obviously the plot of the conspirators is going to succeed, or else there wouldn't really be much need for stealth as Ezzio.
It's also weird to see the assassin trying to save someone at the end (although he does fail).
Also, I admit my knowledge of that time period is a little spotty, but weren't the Medicis pretty bad in their own right? It doesn't seem that a plot to replace them would necessarily be a bad thing.

I liked it. They even made an attempt at historical accuracy, though only just.

From the look of things, Ezzio's a really bad chess player. :P

Now that I've seen one, I want an antique chess set that has red instead of black pieces.

Also, sorry for being an idiot, but where are part 2 and 3 to that video?

Yes, they were; particularly their ally Galeazzo Maria Sforza, the Duke of Milan, who is assassinated in the film. Then again, you may notice that the man who escaped in the beginning was identified as Rodrigo Borgia, which is the Italianized birth name of Pope Alexander VI, a pretty bad dude in his own right. There weren't any angels in Italian politics in that era.

Some thoughts:
It's interesting, in many ways, 15th century Italy seems much less alien than the Middle Ages Holy Land. Of course, I suppose that could be expected, since our western society in part grew directly out of that culture.

Haha, "Capice". What, are we watching the early Mafia here? :D

The fight was fun, if a little tightly cut for my tastes. I didn't have trouble tracking what was happening, although I almost got motion sickness a couple of times there (although that may be due to the alcohol.)

It's definitely hinting that Ezzio is closest to his father, helping to further explain his decision to follow in his father's footsteps as an assassin.

It's also a strange sort of disconnect for me, having an Assassin working for a political power, instead of the quasi-religious Assassins' Order of the first game.

Perhaps he's backing the Medici's because the Assassin's feel that they are the best way forward?

That seems logical. It still raises the questions, however, of who exactly is in charge of the Assassins, and where and how training is done. I have the unfortunate feeling that those issues will not be addressed in AssCreed 2. :(

Potential spoilers hidden (potential as they are from previews etc, and thus may prove utterly wrong):
Spoiler
From what I've read, because Ezio's father was killed before he could initiate Ezio into the order the learning process is not from other assassins, but from people Ezio knows - an uncle who is a mercenary teaches him how to fight, various women of loose morals teach him about working a crowd and social techniques and the thieves guild teach him about running across roof tops. I'm assuming at some point he will meet up with other assassins, but who knows when that will be. I have heard that the very first mission in the game is Desmond busting out of the labs with the help of some modern assassins... Which could be interesting.
Fixed your shit. -- Lag
