My system crashed and I am now using my backup but the graphic card on it needs to be replaced.
The system only has a power supply of 250 Watts so that limits the type of graphic card that I can place in it.
Currently in the computer is a Radeon HD 2400 128mb card. I don't play super high end games. But I do play things like DoW II and EQ2.
Any suggestions?

Radeon HD 4550 or 4650. If you have a low power processor, you might get away with a Radeon HD 4770, which is considerably faster than the former two. Forget anything that has additional power connectors on the card (this also applies to Nvidia GPUs). This calculator is by far the best free online PSU requirement calculator:dragon wrote:My system crashed and I am now using my backup but the graphic card on it needs to be replaced.

Unlike other online calculators, it actually gives realistic values. Many others give wildly inflated power requirements.
However, if your PSU is old, remember to input some capacitor aging (there is a field for that in the calculator).
Re: New graphic card question
Hum maybe I'll just upgrade the power supply as well.
The computer isn't to old as it's a Vista dual core.

Re: New graphic card question
Hi friends,
I am planning to buy a new graphics card for my computer. I came in this forum just to check that is there any help regarding purchasing a graphics card. I loved to play an extreme games which are high in graphics.
Thanks Marcus Aurelius for providing the link to check the PSU unit. I never thought about the PSU. I have checked the my configuration and it shows the PSU is low then the required and I need to change.
