Question re: star wars warfare games

Post by Joviwan »

I was wondering if anyone had heard of or seen a space warfare game played on the table, ala Starfleet Battles, or games of complexity similar to table-top Battletech, explicitly featuring star wars navies. I was asked by my weekly gaming group to look into a Star Wars themed kind of space combat game, and I really couldn't think of where to look except for right here.

There's probably a mod for SFB; but I think the level of complexity (and glacial pace) is unnecessary. Even BCG is faster, but I'm less certain there's a SW/BFG mod.

What level of play do you want? SFB style 'these two ships had a fight' or full table squadron stuff?

Both, if we can. We're absolutely happy to avoid glacial pace, but we're also interested in systems that easily lend themselves to both one-off skirmishes or extended campaigns, if we feel like it; something that Battletech or SFB (so I've heard, I haven't actually played it) is pretty good at. Quick and easy, complicated and obtuse, doesn't really matter, we just want to know what options are available out there.

There's a game, long out of print called Star Warriors by West End. Never played it, but its probably primarily Starfighter based.

Info here.

You could probably make an effort in modifying the rules for Battlefleet Gothic. Nice level of complexity even before you get into the advanced rules, and you can get the full ruleset online for free. Also, due to the rules a ship duel is as engaging and fun as a fleet battle.

That might not be what you're looking for, but I thought I'd throw it out.
