A Persistant Laptop Problem (it's probably my fault)

Post by Majin Gojira »

I've been using a Laptop since I was in 7th grade (currently, I'm a college grad) to peform various tasks, but over the last few years, I've run into a specific problem with the computers I've purchased. A form of wear and tear that I only encountered about the time I went into College.

The screens slowly become damaged and die on me around the time the warrenties (if I got any--I haven't for a while) become worn out--but not in a dead-pixel sort of way.

A faulty connection seems to be the problem between the computer itself and the screen. Causing the image on screen to flicker or fuzz out completely almost like an old TV set. I've found that putting pressure on a specific spot, angling the screen or just giving the machine a jossel will reset things to normal (if for a time). This screams "Loose connection" to me.

It may be caused by my habit of lifting the screens from the lower left-hand corner repeatedly, as it seems to take a year and a half or so to manifest in any signifigant form. I have an inkling it may be heat related as well, but am unable to find a definite link.

But this didn't happen on older machines. I've been using HPs in the last few years, so it may just be limited to them.

Aside from changing the behavior, is there any other way to deal wtih this problem? Is it the product, the methodology, the heat or what?

How about just replacing the screens? I was able to do that with my EEE pc and I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be done for other laptops.
Credo!

I probably should do that this time, because even if it was under warrenty, HP would just replace the entire unit rather than fixing the problem or replacing a single part.

But mostly, I want to prevent it from occuring.
