Joystiq Article
The world's coolest Jedi, Samuel L. Jackson (suck it, Yoda) has just taken the stage at the 2009 Video Game Awards to reveal Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. In the announcement trailer -- Dark Vader's once apprentice -- codenamed "Starkiller" steps into a dark arena only to be faced with a creature hellbent on his destruction. Thankfully, Starkiller -- armed with two light sabers -- pounces to attack the gargantuan foe. Sadly, it was all CG, but we'll take any new Force Unleashed we can get.
Unfortunately I missed it, did anyone see it?

First of all, wrong forum.

Second, Isn't starkiller like, dead?

How can he be in a new game?

If he survived a kamikaze run against the fucking emperor, then he's officially passed waaaaay into mary sue-dom.

Well, not in every ending, but I doubt they'd use that one given how much it diverges from canon.

Clone?

He only dies in the light side ending.

First; looks cool

Second: Possible scenarios

#1 - Clone created by Vader

#2 - 'General Starkiller' route - After the fight with the Emperor, he managed to escape with the other Rebels. (Not as unlikely as you would think). This would explain Yoda's voice, and would be a nice complement to the 'Ultimate Sith Edition' of the Force Unleashed.

#3 - What really happened to him while he was 'being repaired' by Vader (memory wipe?)

#4 - This is Starkiller in the afterlife. I doubt this, as that would be getting into stuff I'm sure George Lucas would like to avoid/ignore.

It's probably #2.

My reasoning
#1 - We know what happens with Starkiller dying and the rebels escaping. It's call the Original Trilogy
#2 - We know what happens with Starkiller going Dark Side and then trying to stop the Emperor from killing Master Kota. It's called 'Ultimate Sith Edition'
#3 - There probably wouldn't be a big difference if Starkiller had killed Kota and bowed to the Emperor willingly. It would still be Ultimate Sith editition, just in a different outfit.
#4 - All that's left is what everyone is wondering; What if Starkiller had escaped the Death Star with the Rebels?

And how Starkiller could have survived the end of 'The Force Unleashed';
We see him use his lightsaber to deflect lightning in the 'Ultimate Sith Edition'. First in the Jedi Temple mission (you can do it against the Apparation), then on Hoth.Spoiler
Hell, him doing it is in the end cut-scence when he defeats Luke and claims his as his apprentice.

This is entirely possible. I guess it just weirds me out because SW doesn't usually do AU stuff. The few "what if" scenarios that have been released were confined to obscure comics. Ultimate Sith edition is the first example of anyone doing anything as major as a non-canon game.

It just seems like a weird step to take for a company which has obsessively attempted to shoe-horn everything into continuity thus far. I'm seriously hoping that it's an AU storyline and not "oh by the way this guy from a game survived an assault against the emperor and goes on to play a major role in the events of the OT." That's waaaaay to cliche for my liking.

As I understand LucaArts 'cannon' for games, The Lightside endings are always the 'real' ending.

:banghead: Cromdamnit. Another reason to finally buy a PS3. :(

I liked starkiller. He was relatable, and It is implied that Palpatine was bullshiting when Starkiller "beat" him. And besides, this might be another starkiller, with the same ship (the rebels escape on the rogue shadow.) Besides in the lightside ending, vader and palpy are staring down at his body in the lightside ending. I think it's probably a clone.

No, that happened when he basically caused the existence of the Alliance, and they decided to use his family crest as the Rebellion's symbol, in his honour or whatever.

Incidentally, they can have him in a new game by retconning the story to be a joke told by a drunk Hutt at a bar.
"And that's where the rebels got their logo!"
"Ha ha ha, you're so funny you should do stand-up comedy!"
But in the shadows of the bar lurks an old and angry man, who goes by the name of Starkiller. This is the story of how he, in his youth, single-handedly saved the galaxy(!) from the Secret Emperor DARTH PLAGUEIS(!!), who was more powerful than the official emperor and also controlled him secretly, and also Starkiller was really popular among the ladies for his huge wang(!!!).

Well, Starkiller was thrown into space by Vader (including quite some TK torture) and brought back to life... after being unconcious for some time aboard a secret BIO WEAPON RESEARCH ship. Could be that the one dying aboard the Deathstar was a clone. And Vader said something like "brought you here to repair you" shortly after he revived Starkiller. Why those words... why not "heal you" or "revive you"?!

I'm definitely looking forward to play FU2 just to learn how they are going to keep Starkiller/Galen Marek as the player character.

Additionally
Force Unleashed had Rancors and a single Rancor Bull.
Force Unleashed 2 seems to get something that
:wtf: MAKES RANCORS LOOK LIKE RAGDOLLS AND THROWS THEM AROUND LIKE A CHEWING TOY. :wtf:
I want to see that

Now we do have a whole Galaxy worth of space so I don't see any problem for Starkiller to screw around with Palpys plans while not being in contact with the Rebel Alliance.

People care about the story in TFU ? I thought TFU is todays JK 2 but with better graphics. Here the story once again is just a quick after thought. It takes backseat to flashy lightsaber duels and force choking stormtroopers which is really the high light of the game like it was before in JK 2. Other than KoToR 1 & 2 I don't recall a SW game where the story stood out as one of the games strong points. TFU 2 is going to live or die by it's gameplay.

I loved the gameplay of tfu one. Using the Wiimote kicked ass.

Funny thing, thanks to this forum, whenever I see the word w<insert vowel>ng I think of Mike. So now I'm picturing Starkiller at the Star Wars cantina wooing ladies with the help of a huge Robotic Mike.

Godzilla-Sized Robot Mike, I tell you! (Or would it be Admiral K?)

Now, regarding the backstory of the game, I often reminded of the JK series and Kyle Katarn when discussing TFU, the difference is that I like Kyle. For one, he's a fusion of Han and Luke, but, most importantly, he intersects the OT briefly in the opening chapter of Dark Forces, when he steals the DS plans and sends them to Leia (Pissing over the corpse of many dead Bothans in the process, though), and later when he comes aboard the Executor, but spends the rest of the game out of continuity, and most importantly, the rest of his games are post OT (and Desann was awesome, but I digress).

In other words.... Why the fuck are they so set on having characters influece the OT/PT plot? We all know how they go, so any development that deviates from canon will be groan inducing, just as Starkiller's reappearance for a TFU2 will be massively groan inducing, as well as whatever rape of continuity happens afterwards.

It's just like setting the first SW MMO in between ANH and ESB, letting loose a horde of maniacs whose first instinct would be to slaughter Vader and loot his corpse, to then go about prancing in his helmet. What were they thinking?

Rant over, sorry for that.

Is there any info about gameplay? If it's a bit less Double Dragon and has less platforming it could be a solid game.

I'm guessing more of the same, although I really hope they take the time to fine-tune the lightsaber combat into something other than "hit dudes with your lightbat." I know the whole angle of the first game was using the force for maximum damage, but that's no excuse to completely half-ass the other key aspect of being a fucking jedi. I tried to have decent lightsaber duels with some of the bosses in TFU, but it just wasn't possible.

Also, FIX THE TARGETING SYSTEM FOR FORCE POWERS!

If they are going again for the sanitized no limbs chopped way of doing things, I very much doubt lightsaber combat will feel like anything but a softcombat LARP event.

I think it only went to teen in the states, so yeah in Aussie land it should been a normal rating.

But wouldn't that allow dismemberment? I'm confused. :)

I have no idea sometimes where they figure it's too much. I do remember the first one basically hitting a person with the lightsaber and all you did was bounce them as if you hit them with a nerf bat.

Maybe this one will be more GRIMDARK and have choppy-choppy to add to it. Because emo won't be enough :P

I think a big part of the lightsaber feel here is that enemies hit by it are knocked back. Memory might be failing me, but in JK:O and JA I don't remember there being a knockback, just the impact sound effect, glowie sparks, and a dead enemy, wich made it feel like you were cutting through them even if there was no dismemberment (unless you activated it, of course).

Guess someone decided the enemies not reacting violently to being hit wouldn't look as spectacular or something. Funny how they tend to do that in most games where you're hitting them with a piercing or slashing weapon. That's a reason I liked Samurai Showdown, blade hits felt like you were cutting, unlike most other games, populated by the bluntest blades of them all.

Since Im playing J:O right now I can tell you that there is no "real" knockback effect when hitting with a lightsaber. The saber just goes through the model alike to cutting through flesh (although no such effect apart from occasional dismemberment exists in the game). There are various "death" animations but I can't recall that anybody was ever knocked back because of lightsaber usage.
