Dad's wanting to rip audio from a DVD, any idea how to do that? (I don't mean a DVD rip, I mean just the music.)

If you're using Windows, if you right-click on the DVD location, you can examine files, and from there you can find the audio. Lots of DVDs don't let you do this, naturally, and there are programs you can use to that effect. I personally use DVDVideoSoft.

Are you wanting to lift a specific audio track, or just a straight recording of a segment of the DVD? If the latter, Audacity should do it, unless there's something funky about DVD audio playback; I've used it to record the audio from Youtube clips, and it worked fine. Might take abit of fiddling with the levels, tough.

The very long and time consuming way would be to find out which of the files on the DVD is the segment u want, convert the file to .wmv, use windows movie maker to cut out the portion u want, make a seperate movie file, and then use a converter program to get your audio file.
