A) You ask for a reason for people's preferrance, yet don't provide one of your own?

B) This is a Games and Computers thread.

C) This a tad vacuous, as well, the thread's survival is dependant on content; keep it worthy.

Not even a poll was created. I use Firefox mainly because of the add-on "Ad-block Plus". It considerably keeps a lot of clutter away when I browse the web.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I stick to using IE; I've tried other web browsers, and while I freely admit some of them seem significantly faster than IE, in the end they tend to generate more problems than they are worth.

I'm using Opera for years now and it never, ever generated even the slightest problem for me. So I'm curious, what problems do browsers other than IE generate :?:

Yeah seriously, I never have problems with Firefox or Opera, meanwhile Internet Exploder is the most security flaw riddled browser possible. You might as well grab a whole torrent marked ‘virus downloaders’. In the early days a lot of sites existed that only worked with IE, but that’s just not the case anymore, and should I encounter a site like that these days, I'll just go somewhere else.

I use firefox, I keep IE around for the odd time where sites seem to only work with it. Chrome I have tried and it seems to crash all the time, though maybe more recent versions are better.

When using a public computer that has the choice of IE or firefox I will usually use IE. For some reason IE seems to start a good deal faster on the computers at my school then Firefox, I don’t notice this on my home pc however.

I prefer Firefox. After a very bad experience with IE a few years ago, I've sworn it off. Yes, I know it's been improved, but I still very much doubt I'll ever go back.

When I tried Chrome back when it first came out, I found it an okay browser. Went back to Firefox though due to it's lack of autoscroll. Have they added that in, yet?

No opinion about Opera, since I've never used it.

Firefox, but I keep Opera installed and I.E. up to date to cross-check in case a website isn't working for some reason.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Firefox pretty much all the time, under Linux, Windows, and Mac OS. I've toyed around with Opera, and various WebKit-based browsers, but the built-in features and available extensions in FF are what keep me coming back.
My only gripe with FF is the memory footprint and general resource hog that it tends to be. I keep looking at Linux-based webkit offerings and Opera. I think eventually I might switch to one of them if the features I use in FF (both built-in and extension-based) become available.

On my Blackberry I primarily use Opera Mini.

I'm using Chrome right now because, at least on my computer, it tends to boot up and load pages faster, but it's also less secure - when I recently did a spyware scan, I found a bunch of cookies that I picked up using Chrome that I didn't pick up visiting the same pages on Firefox.

I basically alternate between Chrome and Firefox, using the latter when browsing anything sensitive (like my bank account and the like online). I don't use IE except at work.

I was converted to Chrome by my younger brother and generally prefer it for its speed and security. I still keep I.E. around, however, because I find that if one of the browsers has trouble with a page, the other one handles it nicely. My general impression is that if you have I.E. and an alternative, you'll never stumble across trouble loading pages or using in-page applications (for example, Direct2Drive doesn't initiate its associated download application unless you use I.E. although the rest of the site works perfectly with Chrome).

Opera the features built into it have kept me here (especially version 10) although I have a stripped down security modified version of firefox for banking as my internet bank won't work properly in either Opera or (oddly) IE.

I'm using Firefox at work, but I stick to Opera at home because I'm just used to it so much by now. It just does everything I need, including Newsfeeds for the odd couple of feeds I subscribe to, and it's slick and fast and doesn't use a lot of resources.

And yeah, not many sites refuse to work or look odd in Opera these days, same with Firefox. Once in a while some site will still need IE to run properly, but it's no big deal to fire up IE if I really, really want/need that site. It only happens once every couple of months anyways.

Inability to display certain websites, incompatibility with existing add-ons I use with IE. Heck, even the speed issue I conceded with regards to IE just isn't apparent to me anymore. I always expect IE to load a page by the time I move my mouse from the link I clicked.

It just isnt worth it for me to even bother trying other browsers at this point.

I use Firefox, because I've had tremendous issues with IE in the past and I can't stand not having a drop down list in Chrome.

After massive problems and one browser hijack too many I switched to Firefox. I still keep IE installed and updated as mentioned some websites won't work on FF. I tried Chrome and found it too flimsy. All IE's weakness and none of the advantages IE does bring.

There, I fixed that for you

I use FF almost exclusively. I have tried Chrome, but it was still a bit too much beta at that point. The current versions are better, I am told, but FF 3.5.x is already plenty fast and you can get a lot of useful extensions for it. I have tried Opera occasionally and while it's a fine browser, I haven't seen too much reason to switch to it.

I have also tried IE 8 and while it's much better than 7 (let alone 6), it's still slower than FF 3.5 and of course I always rather use a non-Microsoft product anyway unless the MS product is clearly superior for the task at hand. The early 2000s when IE 6 dominated are a good example of what happens if MS does not have competition (i.e. stagnation). At work I am sometimes forced to use IE, because there are still some specialist websites that do not work reliably with anything else.
