PS3 firmware question

Has anyone heard of version 3.15 having issues? I have a PS3 Slim (120 GB, GameStop refurbished*) with version 3.01, 97 GB free out of 111 GB total, and I just want to be certain that all is well so as not to risk bricking my system.

* It's working fine so far, got onto the Internet by wireless... and based on personal experience, it having been GameStop refurbed doesn't necessarily meant that there was anything actually wrong with it, just that the customer thought so.

There were some rumors about it making systems freeze after about twenty minutes of use. One site attributed it to running the disc drive faster and causing overheating. Mainly on launch systems, but I've heard that it happened to others. You can check the PS3 update forum Playstation forums for more details. There are a number of threads on it and 3.10.

After playing a video (MP4-AAC) the sound cut from my receiver, but that might not have been the PS3's fault. However, it froze on me while playing AC2, but after rebooting it (turning it from active to standby and back again) it worked fine.

I didn't have any gameplay issues after the update (again, 120 GB), but I'm really un-used to hearing such a distinct whirr/operating sound for the PS3 drive, unless that's exclusive to the Slim? When using the big PS3s I found them to be much quieter, at least when inserting a disc; it could be that I didn't put in the disc at the right angle, so instead of being "caught" and pulled in the drive simply moved its internals.

Thanks for mentioning your issues though with this firmware.

Are you sure it's not just the game you're trying to play?

I'm sure it wasn't the game; I'm not used to how loud it was ejecting the disc, but the above was when I was trying to insert the disc, and got it in enough for the drive to operate but not far enough for it to actually latch onto the disc...
