So here it is. Looks pretty cool to me.

I demand the ability to make a female Space Marine.

*flees from resulting WH40k fan rage explosion*

Looks pretty, but if those Imperial Guardsmen are playing then god only knows how they're going to balance them vs Marines and such.

The same way any online game or MMO balances stuff based on extensive existing lore.
Taking that lore and shoving it up their ass.

The graphics actually look pretty decent. If the gameplay manages to change things up even slightly from the typical mmo rubbish it might be worth looking into.

Well if you watch closely you can see one part where this differs from standard MMO faire, they've added Third Person Shooter elements (30s mark).

That's already been down (along with an FPS mode) in Fallen Earth.
It didn't really turn out to be vastly different from other MMOs there either.

Bahahahaha. If they allow Space Marine PCs, nobody will play anything else unless they're nerfed into something that bears little resemblance to what they're supposed to be. If they don't, they'll lose a massive chunk of the existing fanbase.

That said, though, it'll be interesting to see how it develops.

Hmm. No sign of Eldar, Tau, or 'crons. I predict they'll shove those into expansions, for more moolah.

Never heard of Fallen Earth. I have slightly better hopes for a game with greater name recognition and likely a bigger budget to make the gameplay not suck.

Bleh, as long as Sisters of Battle are available...because "male characters only " would really, really suck.

And it's always been standard that Marines are not displayed in their full power ingame. You'll hardly loose any fans about this, especially if the other options are based on other elite forces (Stormtroopers, Sisters of Battle, Inquisitorts etc.).

Couldn't the Marines have specific areas that are tailored to their abilities? Either that or they receive no advancement for killing something a Guardsman would struggle to handle. I'm not sure how that would work in a gameplay sense.

And...wow do the parts showing the Orks look straight out of WoW.

It's not so much sucking as it is very easy to sink into a standard gameplay rut with MMOs. Time will tell.

I would ASSUME they'd go that route (of having female options like Sisters I mean), unless they're very, very stupid.

I wonder if we'll actually be able to fight alongside a Titan, or if that will just be for cutscenes.

Now if you could PLAY as one (at least at specific points)...that would be awesome.

But i seriously hope that they include battles with large amounts of NPCs - without tons of cannon fodder and the corresponding cannoncs (on vehicles), it's just not 40K.
Plus, it would be something new and appealing, if done properly.

That's kind of the point really, most standard mmo gameplay sucks. :P

That didn't look like mere cutscene fare. Watch the way the legs animate around nearby ground dudes -- they definitely look like dynamic critters in the environment.

EDIT: You can see a bit of lagginess in general with all the vehicles, which paradoxically is a pretty good sign.

Numerical superiority. Have Guardsmen play as a sergeant/commissar in command of a squad, a la CoX Masterminds. No one of them has to be able to stand up to an Astartes, so you don't have to try to scale them together one-to-one. Alternately, take the SWTOR route and don't let players play bog-standard guardsmen. Stormtroopers, Kasrkin, Catachans, Armageddon Ork Hunters, etcetera are all far closer to a SM's level for the purposes of balancing them against one another.

That sounds like a decent compromise. Though if I understand things correctly you'd want something more like an entire platoon at your disposal to compete with a Marine.

Depends on the Guardsmen in question, really. For latency-avoiding purposes, I'd use some reasonably hardcore IG to keep the number of models running about in each squad under control.

I'd do it as "all of the above," have a Imperial Guard "players" command a squad of troops and have them as "elite" IG units rather than standard fodder. I'd also thought about simply not having Space Marines/Chaos Marines as player characters at all, instead treat them as late/endgame "boss fights." A 40-man deployment of Imperial Guard vs a squad of Chaos Marines (trash pull) or a really high-end Chaos unit (Champion, Sorceror) sounds just about right. But, as has been mentioned, I think they'd lose a lot of their playerbase if people couldn't play as a Space Marine.

Having players control "squads" (or vehicles) would probably be the best compromise. Vehicles are going to be tough to pull off, though; I twitch when I'm playing Dawn of War and see a tank grind to a halt because some guy with a sword is banging on the front armor instead of just running the asshole over.

I wonder if they'll be ballsy enough to have risks associated with playing a psyker or Librarian? Or am I the only sick bastard who wants to see some IG Sanctioned Psyker get daemon-possessed in the middle of a raid boss and cause a wipe?

Looks like Marines PCs are going to be Black Templars - Still shots
Watched the video again, all the loyalist marines looked like BTs, though their armor was more steel grey then black. Makes sense though, the BTs are spread across the galaxy and it gives us something other then Ultramarines to play. I wondering if the titan is a background element, some mission were the players are being supported in an assault, or hell the ultimate in PVP.

BERZERKERS!

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

But then again if they use the same billing setup as the Fantasy MMO then i'm not interested. 40K has taken enough of my money already...

I'd probably handle psykers overloading themselves similarly to Bright Wizards/Sorceresses in WAR, only with fewer explosions and more tentacled horrors from beyond space and time. Another option, in groups, would be to start fucking with the targeting of psyker powers the power they're throwing around. Sure, you're unleashing an unholy beatdown, but oooh shit, you just made your heavy weapons team's eyes boil by accident.

Oops.
