iTunes Rage (split from Venting)

What the hell? I'm looking at getting a new MP3 player to replace the one I have now (it's 7 years old), and the only choices are the iPod Touch, the iPod Classic and the Archos 5. The Archos seems to have a lot of problems and the Classic isn't able to open PDFs (not to mention I hate the frigging wheel)...which leaves the Touch - or nothing

What's wrong with the Touch? It's a pretty good device, and you can do quite a bit with it. I have the Classic and it's a great MP3 player, but the iPhone is leagues ahead (and my sister's Touch, likewise). I was going to use the Classic as a paperweight or as an 80GB portable drive, except my iPhone isn't compatible with my stereo's dock.

Protesters. Police everywhere. Transit & everything shut down. Oh, and a riot complete with burning police cars.

Fuck my work.
I saw that. Peter Mansbridge's commentary is hilarious. The burning police cars was pretty rattling to see, though.

What's wrong with the Touch?
It's Apple, which is the new Microsoft, if you didn't get the memo. As in EVIL Empire with the largest market value in the world. Proof: Steven Jobs is known to park his car at the handicapped space in front of the head office in Cupertino, CA. What else is needed?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't follow Apple or Jobs much - didn't Jobs have some sort of a life-threatening health problem in the past? If he's got a legitimate handicap parking plate or placard then what's wrong with parking in the handicapped spot?

Of course, if he doesn't have that then he's a jackass.

He had some sort of cancer, and while I've never seen the inside of his car, I do seem to recall that the first whining about him using the handicap spots was when he came back after surgery.

'course, I didn't start really following apple until just before he went out, so what do I know?

Nothing with more than 16GB of storage, which is what I'm looking for. It's either the iPod Touch, the Classic or Archos 5.

With the Touch specifically, nothing to be honest. I just don't like that with an iPod I can't drag-and-drop through Explorer, right?

Trust me, organizing your music through iTunes is way simpler. Either you've got the same directory system set up as iTunes, which is a pain in the ass to navigate (unless you're using iTunes or WMP) or you've got them all in a single folder, which isn't very easy to find single tracks. Just use iTunes, it's really not a big deal, you get way more flexibility with it than with windows explorer, and you'll need it to manage the apps for the touch anyway. Plus, I dunno if this is a big pro for you or not, but iTunes U is pretty cool.

Like anything there's a learning curve but you'll figure it out quick enough. If you have any questions PM me.

Drag and drop is vastly overrated.

Drag n drop can be faster than alternatives.

Unless something happens to all the files on your MP3 player. Then you have to drag and drop all over again instead of just clicking sync.

Which alternatives? How about an actual comparison of Windows Explorer vs say...iTunes, instead of this vague bullshit?

Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, click the mp3-player window, Ctrl-V, watch progress bar fill up. Oh wait, this is iTunes, there's no such thing as quick/easy/user-friendly. Just User-FUCK-YOU!

Playlists? Dynamic playlists? Shuffle? All those nice things that players give you?

For moving individual files or groups of highlighted files are you implying there is a way faster than just moving your mouse cursor with left button pressed ?

Who really cares about speed when you're making a playlist? For those of us with several gigs of music drag and drop is simply un manageable.

Itunes bad... itunes but broken is better

And sorry, being able to say 'sync the next 3 unwatched episodes for tv shows x y and z every time' is a little bit faster than drag and drop

BUT WHO NEEDS FACTS
