Super Mario Crossover: Now with 100% more Ninjas!

So the recent update not only gave the stated upgrades to Samus (crouch and crouch fire), Mega Man (Rush Spring), Link (attack in 4 directions standing), and Simon (better jumping) (Mario stays normal, and Bill is overpowered as always), they also added Ryu from Ninja Gaiden.

Wow. Ryu sucks in this game. One of the key gameplay elements for the NES Ninja Gaiden games was that nearly all enemies could be one-shot killed and that the challenge was to develop the right rhythm to kill them all as they came onscreen while constantly moving forward. By making the sword absurdly weak in this game they force you to be stopping constantly to wail on some Goombas or to just employ the head-stomp, defeating the purpose of playing as Ryu in the first place.

isn't Ninja Gaiden.
This is Ryu in Super Mario Bros.
Which means you gotta find
new rhythms.

Does anybody else find their time running out with the new characters on later levels because you can't run?

I didn't have any trouble with Samus.

I think that's happened to me once or twice. Probably why you can actually turn the timer off in the latest version.

Really, that's awesome. I noticed it on parts of world eight with Billy because he can't run as fast as Mario can spring and world 8-3 is a bit nasty when you can't sprint.

Actually, never having beaten 8-3 it was shorter than I thought it would be. I usually just had to take it as Mario slow so it seemed longer than it was.

I think Ryu is probably my favorite character in SMBCrossover.
I mean, Bill is hands-down the balls-out most brokenest powerful motherfucker, and Samus Aran is Samus fucking Aran, but I think Ryu's probably the best. You've just gotta learn to throw shuriken like a madman and bypass enemies when you need to.
Also, his ability to climb is utterly unique, letting him bypass vast swathes of that which characters were not meant to bypass.
