So finished Batman: Arkham Asylum

One year later, yeah, I know. My gaming backlog is ridiculously long.
Having started playing right after finishing Assassin's Creed 2, I've got to say that I would like if in Arkham City they make sure to implement a little more AC-style control and particularly 'edge gravity' - Altair / Ezio just control smoother than Batman does - where as Altair/ Ezio will stop at a ledge to prevent themselves from falling off (unless you want them to) Batman will happily fall off it. Sure, it doesn't matter much because even if it's a 'lethal' fall you just grapple-gun your way out of it, but its still frustrating.
I got all the trophies / patient interviews / chronicles as well (I knew it was Quincy Sharp from his voice within the first few ones, really not that big a mystery) though I had to get the last few after I finished the game, because I went into the Visitor's Center just to have a chat with the Joker TV and didn't realise it was the end of the game - I should've clued in when there was all those inmates outside. I should've fucking fought them.
It also would've been good if the boss battles weren't so repetitious - the majority of them are minor variations on "throw your batarang at the right time, and you may have to leap out of the way". Killer Croc was even easier than the other fights, since no running was really required until the sequence at the end.
Still, fucking awesome game.
I played it on PS3 (got it for my birthday last year) - how's the PC version compare? Far superior? Or a mediocre port?

The PC version is about the same as the consoles but with some extra PhysX stuff. When I went through the game originally my biggest complaint was that the camera made me a bit nauseous thanks to the awkward perspective. Detective mode also didn't give you any reason to shut it off.

Yeah, I had to remember to turn off Detective Mode simply because it was ruining all the visuals. I hear that they're toning it way down in Arkham City so it's less obtrusive. I have no idea why they needed to get rid of all but one colour on the screen to implement it.

PC version is good. I'd say it's a little better on all accounts than the Console, but you'll want a gamepad or joystick for heavy combat anyways. I made do with a WASD and mouse setup, but it was just too hard to link into people in later fights with just those four directions.
The non detection elimination sections/ missions are a lot more fun with the WASD and mouse, IMO.
I kept turning off Detective mode so I could see the graphics as well. There's no good reason not to have it on. In the sequel, I'd have it autocut if Batman starts running, and upgrading into a far less obtrusive version later on.

Yeah, detective mode being a 'highlight something important' instead of 'Computer Wireframe' view would be a nice improvement.
As for the Boss Monsters, they are really not the point in the game, so no real complaints.
Mind you, actually getting into a Fist fight with Bane or Croc would have been interesting. Hell, even Harley Quinn.
Mind you, the Poison Ivy fight was right in line with what you'd expect with her. Also, LOVE the model of her.

Wait.... So Batman gets Detective Mode and Wolverine gets Feral Senses? Weird.
One year later, yeah, I know. My gaming backlog is ridiculously long.
My backlog is based on when the darn prices drop (and playing on the PC I simply miss a lot of games), and Batman is refusing to go down. On the other hand, I got XO:Wolverine for 20€, and I'm quite enjoying it. If Batman is anything like it, I'll like it too.
The question is... When will they make a decent sandbox-y
Superman game? Yeah, he's not gritty and depressing, but flying around hurling impossibly large stuff is made of too much win to matter.

Backlog idiots etc.
I can't imagine finishing the game because it was so boring. Each room is a puzzle, and the solutions are generally obvious and repetitive.

I managed to hit a plus 100 combo with WASD..I want to say it was around 120...
...but I am a badass.

The final boss fight is a towering monument to shitty design. So disappointing.

Or running out of focus/money/time.
Last night I finished the Wolverine game, and the last two levels and bossfights were massively dissapointing.
From what I've read, it's quite the trend to have games put their best effort up to the midpoint, and then just phone it in for the rest. Shame.

The problem was the camera angles in the second to last fight rather than WASD being impossible. I just needed a bit finer control method to properly link between the goons in the open space with the shifty camera.

I wouldn't say the phone it in, their just not able to keep the momentum up, or by the time they work on the end they're out of time/money. God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 would be great examples of that. For Uncharted playing through Shambala was still fun, but it couldn't top the train sequence in the middle of the game. And God of War 3 killing Zeus was fun, but you can easily admit some of the earlier boss battles were a lot more fun.
