I have a VA Tac officer names Gaius Flagg, a VA Eng named Flagg Kofor, and a ltcm Klingon Eng named Flaggumas. As you can see I'm very original when it comes to names.

Left after I realised it was just some pretty space but repetitive combat and a futuristic texture applied to an crappy MMO model.

Played since the open beta, had an RA5 and a BG5. I quit just after they increased the level cap and nerfed the cruiser as well as buffed the escorts. The ground combat was exceptionally bad. Space combat was fun, but marred by either hilariously easy or soul-crushingly hard missions. The end-game "raids" were just..... terrible, except Infected which I really enjoyed running as all I did was heal.

The PVP (or lack of) is what killed it for me. Ground combat was nothing but turret spam and idiotic crack-jumping. Thankfully, it was fully avoidable. The space combat PVP was fun, but the lack of decent objectives and uninspiring map design made it bland after a while. Also, in the PUGs, klingons usually brought the fight, whereas only pre-made fed teams even stood a chance and started doing markedly less well when Cryptic nerfed extend shields to high hell (which was a good thing, except it made it worthless). That and getting even teams was next to impossible.

The one thing I really liked about STO was that having all epics didn't mean shit in the long run. Sure, you could hit a bit harder and last a bit longer, but a sufficiently skilled player running nothing but commons/uncommons and a few levels below you was still a very dangerous opponent. Meanwhile, a fully decked out 80 in WoW will destroy you with ease, even if you could be considered in the same PVP bracket (which I think 80s get put into their own now). But world PVP, run or die like a man.

And really, world PVP (or at least a PVP zone besides the two they had when I quit) would have been great in STO, or at least PVP that mattered. Once my buddy's PC gets fixed, we may pick it back up if only to see if they've made even more a mess of things.

I dunno, I think ground combat is decent, definitely better than Pirates of the Burning Sea, which is along the lines of what I had expected.

So is anyone currently playing in a Klingon fleet I can join? I'd join one of the random invites I get but I don't wanna be in a fleet where I don't know anyone.

I would play it but I'm not a huge fan of the direction they've gone down (lol everyone's at war lol). It's a shame that the first star trek game of many years turned out to be an MMO. I'd like to see an RPG or a sequel to Birth of the Federation.

Hmm price has gone down since the last time I checked their site. One of the reasons I wouldn't get the game is because I thought it was too expensive.

You can play for free for a short time IIRC. I think it just lets you play the tutorial mission and one after that, though.

Got the lifetime subscription, and I really enjoy space combat; the Breen episode was a lot of fun, too, and I like my new bridge officer.
Look me up on @greymav; I've got a Captain 5 engi as my highest.

I've heard rumors that they're planning a major overhaul of ground combat, going to make it much more FPS-like. I'm gonna wait and see.

New episode is out!
I believe I've actually run into the Devidians before - ran a series of missions involving them slaughtering the crew of a small Federation starship, leaving it adrift. I sent an away team to investigate, and lo and behold, crazy energy wraiths started attacking.

It was "Ghost Ship". The Devidians are from the TNG episode 'Times Arrow' so I expect time travel to come into play before this series is over.

Obviously I need to go back and watch some TNG and TOS episodes - it's been years since I last saw any of them.

I have been playing since Open Beta Started and got a lifetime sub... unfortunatly it seems that may have been a mistake due to the simple fact STO has done nothing but become a haven of morons led by a fanbase of brainless fanboys with too much money.

I grow exceptionally tired of hearing stupid fuckers saying 'Waaah waaah the game has only been out X, give it time'
Sorry, but if I have to give it time to actually be worth playing then what the fuck am I being charged for an on-going beta for ?

'Waaah waaah, other MMOs have done X ,Y , Z wrong'
So because OTHERS have fucked up, its okay for Cryptic to do it, right ?

As its, Cryptic have done nothing but be a lying bunch of slimy money-grubbers in almost EVERYTHING they attempt to introduce.

'Hey guys, we know BETA was shit but the 45 day patch will add tonnes of new shit'
45 Days later
'Oops, we know we said it would be 45 days but instead we decided to make it 65 days. Make sure and checkout the C-Store to buy whatever load of shit item we decided to add'

'We know we said the C-store would only be used to sell cosmetic items and not gameplay affecting items... but hey, we need the money to pay for content you ask for. Whats that, your subscription fee should cover the costs of developing the game ?
Dont you know that the ENTIRE gaming industry is moving towards a micro-transaction model so that makes us entirely justified in doing the same (and the population of Star Trek is filled with stupid fuckers that are more than willing to be sucked dry of every cent over the most trivial addition).'

Recruit 5 friends and get the shiny Galaxy-X FREE as an EXCLUSIVE deal
*Three months later*
Galaxy-X is now available on the C-Store for everyone to buy, sucks to be you the people who did the recruiting or sunk $200 - $300 into buying multiple boxes.

STO has went from one disaster to another and despite the amount of hype they put out about adding new shit, the majority is exactly that... shit.

Oh joy, I get one new episode every week that will take... an hour to do.
What the fuck am I supposed to do with the hours before and after that ?

Level - Goes so fast it isnt funny. I got to 45 in one week after launch, I got to VA in less than 3 days after they raised the cap months later.
Equipment grinding - Hah, our equipment system is a wreck with us alternating between offering the 'best items' at endgame easily but also making the 'raid' gear worthless.
Crafting - I cannot believe Cryptic are so functionally retarded to have even devised this failed abortion let alone call it a CRAFTING system. Whats funny is their other game Champions suffers from a similar problem with crafting but not NEARLY this bad.

STFs (Raids) - Heres a random map with lots of enemies, go kill them and spend 30 mins - 3 hours in a lesson of mind numbing tedioum of doing the same shit over and over for the next three months to get gear that is... not that good or worthless.

Fleet Actions - Cryptic make Fleet actions but dont make a mechanic where organised groups can really GET into a private instance thus the whole concept is broken. As for Fleets themselves, the largest group you can have is 5 and the raids / fleet actions are the ONLY group content in the game.

Next up we shall make these kinds of actions tedious or extremely boring, then when people say they want MORE work done on them we can point to the inactivity as evidence the populace of an MMO want to play solo. Result: Welcome to more one-episode-per-week seasons that can be done solo in a game where 99% of it is soloable and the whining has resulted in Cryptic deciding to make the GROUP RAIDS solo-player friendly.

Cryptic keep coming out with nothing but lame promises and vague bullshit to cover the fact the game is clearly a mess. Oh wow, I can fly the Nebula in a game which has broken mechanics, bugs and infested with folks that continue to whine about the most trivial shit and Cryptic gives them it... for a handful of $$$.
Granted, Cryptic at least managed to get the game looking visually impressive with some of the details but a TOS Uniform or flashy bridge does jack shit to change horrid gameplay problems like enemies that one-shot you or brain destroying grinding of copy / paste generic mission dialogue / maps / stats / powers / items / objectives until you literally know them all by rota.

Oh but hey !
We are coming out with a new C-store item next week... the Sehlak Cub pet which does fuckall while ignoring the armful of VALID compaints being generated or the simple fact this game is nothing but a collection of gimicks and polish covering up the lack of any real progression.

If your a die hard Star Trek fan that wants to play solo 99% of the game and have no problem forking out cash ONTOP of your subscription to get the 'cool stuff' then STO will suit you. If on the other hand your looking to play a game with decent mechanics or actually encourages multi-play, STO is a complete disappointment.

It's ridiculous when you think about the progression. Cryptic wasn't even going to originally include the ability to visit the bridge. People complained about this, so we were treated to some kind of area in a ship, obviously built for 15 foot tall Supermen. It didn't take long for Cryptic to realize "Hey, nerds would pay CASH MONEY for different designs." So, for $5+ per you could buy new bridge designs and then new ship models, and new costumes, titles, and pets.

The Galaxy-X was the big "fuck you." By either whoring yourself out as an advertiser or later just dropping $30, you get the cloaking enabled cruiser with it's PCC. It wasn't a game breaker or anything, but you could just trade money for new toys that affected PVP. I left before they released it, but feds were going to get a cloaking enabled Defiant. I do know that had I hit level 50, I would have to pay cash for a second Tier whatever ship as I ran cruiser and sci.

Respeccing also was an issue for me as there were quite a few changes to the way my abilities worked. As I was already RA when Season 1 was released, I only had the first respec free. The second one, after they changed a few of my class and ship abilities again, almost totally wiped me out of merit. And merit is one of the few experience type things in this game that isn't given out like candy. My only other option, rather than grinding bullshit repeatables would have been to drop cash money for another respec. I just said fuck it and dealt with a sub-optimal build.

And while all this is going on, the content for klinks was abysmal and the end-game content for either faction was non-existent. But hey, while you wait for some content why not pay money for the "KHAAAAAAN!" emote? The real kicker for me was, from what little I read on the forums shit like "Lol feds are nub spam" was completely cool, but even mentioning the money whoring was an insta-ban.

I really haven't noticed anything you all have mentioned...though I suppose having a lifetime subscription means I really don't have a reason to get pissed over the store.

I've been having fun playing with friends, and as it stands, I can afford to take the long view on the game - if it takes them three years to really get the game polished to a mirror shine, well, I'll still be able to play in three years, and for now, I'm enjoying flying around doing missions with my friends. Haven't even visited the forums.
