What were the games you loved most growing up (I mean before the middle of high school)? Mine are in no particular order, but you are free to put them in an order or not.

1.) Ratchet and Clank III: Unlike the other games, this one had the most replay value. I actually completed the campaign a second time. Not to mention that it had the best weaponry Killing others was never so much fun.

2.) Super Mario 64: The first game I ever played as a kid; it wasn't until I got a PS2 for christmas that I stopped. It was that good. I got all the secrets, which I rarely fully succeed in doing, and it could be played as a family rather then just me in the special entertainment room.

3.) The Sly cooper series: Yeah I know I'm cheating, but I just really liked this series. The characters, worlds, and gameplay were all made, and while the first game has outdated graphics, it still holds a place in my heart.

4.) Knights of the Old Republic: I got this 4 years after it came out, and it was still really good damn cool. I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said, just that playing as all lightside is still really cool (I am just not able to make a dark side action. ) It was wierd having to borrow my Mom's laptop for the first few months though.

5.) Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door: This game is awesome. I liked it, and it's one of the few I bothered replaying. The replay value is that good. It's bright, colorful, creative, and fun for all the family.

1. Planescape:Torment :What can change the nature of a man? A kick ass game when RPG's featured books worth of dialog
2. Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt combo combo, great launch games both, damn dog
3. Battlefield 1942: To this day no better giant combined arms game exists. Where I can both Torpedo the Yamto in a sub, bomb it in an SBD. Fight it with the Prince of Wales ship to ship. Or board it and shoot the respawning crewman. Good arcade-ie fun which Desert Combat and Forgotten Hope much improved.
4. Final Fantasy III (VI in Japan) Music, design, and the bad guy wins!
5. Anarchy Online: My first MMO, terrible on launch, great after a year, a ghost town after three years. Good music and a interesting classes kept me coming back over Ashrons Call and Everquest Online

only temporarily though. the heros do kill him in the end. and vayne did somewhat succeed in his overall goals.

I don't know if I can list 5, but The Oregon Trail is definitely up there on the list.

i kept dying on that game. I also never figured out how to win it.

Buy only bullets at the beginning, go at the fastest pace, and kill everything you can see.

Final Fantasy Six. Kefka success in gaining super-powers wrecking the world and ruling over it for a time as their God-King smiting all those that oppose him with his Light of Judgment. If he had taken the time to learn Ultima instead he's still be ruling his world but instead the heroes "won" and the world is saved! Except it's a burned out broken world and most of the population is dead.

Being that Kefka was an insane murderous clown that goes down as a big win in his win/loss records.

Not all of us are as old as you, I was a freshman in high school when Twilight Princess came out.

1. Super Mario Bros.
I played this on the Gameboy Color when I was in elementary school. Fun as hell even though I suck at platforming, never got past World 8-1.

2. Tetris Attack
My first video game, simple puzzler. Still have it, but I have nothing to play it on. If you haven't heard of it you've probably played it as a different title..

3. Pokemon Gold & Silver
Best Christmas ever (despite having a fever). Later that week I found out all of my friends got it also, so we just played that shit all day either battling each other or playing through the "story". I was able to replay this over and over and over and over again.

4. Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
Best hand held Zelda ever. It literally gave you everything a 3d Zelda had to offer other than 3d. Several sword moves, an array of items, lengthy dungeons towards the end (those last 3, wow), a likable sidekick (that I never had to protect), and a fair amount of side quests (Kingstones FTW), they even had Tingle (I think). This made Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks all the more disappointing, they took out much of that out for the sake of touch controls. I mean the shield was absolutely useless in those games.

5. I can't decided between Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland (my favorite Kirby next to Canvas Curse) and Mega Man Battle Network 3 for my 5th. Though I remember enjoying both of them and replaying them over and over again.

I find that I don't replay my games now even remotely as much as I did then. I guess back then, I got something whenever I could convince my mom to buy a game for me, so until then, I replayed what I had. Now that I buy my own games, I get them a lot of more frequently and just move on, in most cases before I even beat the previous game purchased. I'm building a backlog while I still want to get a few more games for Christmas.

dude, I was in 8th grade when Twilight Princess came out. Your OLDER then me. I just felt that games gotten within the past two years were a bit to recent. I am Sorry if i came across as to restrictive, I was just trying to start a fun topic.

In no real order, simply the most memorable.

Which just reinforces my belief that FF7 and Seph by extension is one of the most overhyped games of all Time. Kefka was and is my favorite Villain EVER.

Starflight, Star Control 2, Buck Rogers ... all better scifi games than most. Also; hell cheesy. Time limits? Clues? Combat and problem-solving? POW!

Rings of Power, Master of Magic ... top of the 90s fantasy silliness.

PS, kids aren't old enough to have 'nostalgia' for anything.

In no particular order.

Tossup between Dune II, Command & Conquer and Red Alert. All were Westwood titles of similar design, and while obviously RA was the most advanced of the three, all of them have a lot of nostalgic value, both for their cheesy stories as well as pioneering RTS gameplay.

Dark Age of Camelot. Everyone's first MMO holds some special value, and DAoC was mine. Breton Paladin, Albion, Guinevere. Way back when in wheneverthefuck, I remember logging in, running around, and soon wandering into that Scottish hill zone north of the starting zone, whose name escapes me now. I saw another player in the distance, and it hit me: "HOLY FUCK I AM PLAYING IN THIS WORLD WITH LIKE A GAZILLION OTHER PLAYERS WHOA THAT'S CRAZY"

Chaos Gate. Delicious. A fuckin' fine squad tactical (a la Jagged Alliance et al) on its own merits, and great 40k to boot. Although the relatively recent Dawn of War 2's Chaos Rising did a respectable job, no 40k game has even come close to the 'fluffiness' of Chaos Gate. The music was low-quality MIDI at the time, but the compositions are vastly superior to the contemporary 40k games'. One problem: It has severe crash bugs on modern OS/DirectX versions. I managed to hack out some of them from the campaign with partial success, but eventually they ran too deep and the campaign cannot be completed without, like, a Win98 DX6 box. :(((

Lemmings. I don't remember the Lemmings games very well, because I played them only when I was very young. But they do have a lot of nostalgia value for that reason. I remember placing blockers and stair builders and miners...

Another tossup: Raptor: Call of the Shadows and the various incarnations of Tyrian. Finer shoot-'em-up scrollers have ne'er been made. Thankfully, the hottest version of Tyrian is readily available and quite playable for the those with the inclination to look, and an updated version of Raptor was recently put on GOG.

Star Control 2 - Best 4x game ever made.

Super Mario Brothers 3 - duh

Phantasy Star (SMS)- 1st JRPG I ever played. I probably had over 200 hours suck into that game, and I STILL didn't beat it Got stuck with an unwinnable Save in Lassic's castle-in-the-sky

Fallout 2 - If you haven't played it, do. It's amazing(ly broken) but still awesome and hilarious.

Mike Tyson's Punch Out! - I think I beat Mike Tyson once. ONCE in a bajillion playthroughs. I'm probably just terrible at games.

Are you talking about Buck Rogers:Countdown to Doomsday? I spent hours on that game.

Yeah, the Genesis version had actual graphics too. Starflight was better on Genesis too. That crazy music was fantastic.

I suppose I should probably squeeze in Solar Jetman and Commander Keen into my list somewhere. But I never finished Jetman and I only really had access to Keen for a short time.

GoldenEye 64:
What can I say? Its GoldenEye! The only one on the list that I still play with friends.

Age of Empires 2:
Brutal multiplayer, shame MSN Gaming Zone closed and everyone only wants to play Castle Blood on the replacements.

Ocarina of Time:
Didn't complete it for years and years and years though

Pokemon Red/Blue/Crystal:
My first RPG. I still don't understand why I love these games so much. Battling each other in the playground (with or without GameBoy's) was always fun though. Bought Diamond recently and was disappointed, it seems the magic has gone or i've just grown up.

Civilization 2:
TBS at its very very best. Took me years to learn how to properly play, still get beaten by Deity though.

Yeah, I suppose not much has changed between my first year of college and elementary school. Hell, most of the conversations I had year were "do you remember that?", "that shit was awesome", "I used to watch/play that for hours", and so on.

Dude, I played/got lost in/had no idea what to do in Starflight before you were born. It's not nostalgia if you've still got the game on the shelf.

Barf; Commander Keen? I mean...really? What was there to like about that pile? (And that goes for all the clones, too) Why not....Space Quest or something?

Same, Commander Keen was like the first "real"
PC game I played after leaving the nes behind in the early 90's
Besides, you have to love the idea of a kid saving the galaxy

How about Wrath of Earth? A Doom-era hardsuit simulator/adventure game, where you had to manage battery power, suit functions and long periods with no fuel to ... i guess blast a bunch of guys. Vision modes, auto-map, all knds of modern shit. I remember spending hours slipping through a cavern system without using IR to keep the power going. Eye of the Beholder style wall-bumping!

I'll pick ancient games that most of this board didn't play until emulators or ever
