Playstation Games Coming to Android

Well, apparently it's not just for the long rumoured Playstation Phone.
With the announcement of PlayStation Suite, Sony has taken their foremost brand and created a ubiquitous game platform that will span select Android devices and the Next Generation Portable, otherwise known as the PSP2.
The PlayStation Suite takes aim at Apple's app platform, and will allow the company to bring specialized PlayStation games to a wider range of devices, including tablets and smartphones. To ensure that devices are capable of running PlayStation games to Sony's standards, the company will implement a certification program that will require hardware manufacturers to adhere to specific technical specifications and support guidelines before the platform can or official PlayStation licensing can be used.
To kick things off, later this year Sony will be offering a number of PS one classics, though the specific title offering was not confirmed.
The company also plans to create an Android-compatible version of the PlayStation Store, which will be the company's sole distribution platform for third-party devices. Both the PlayStation Suite and PlayStation Store will require Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Though still unconfirmed by Sony, the first device to support the PlayStation Suite on Android is expected to be the rumored Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

Apparently it's PSOne games first, but I should imagine PSP games would roll out in due time.

Man...I swear to fuck if Tecmo's Deception isn't in there.....
then again, if it is - I'm cancelling my plans to get an iPhone and getting a Hero when this comes out.
here's my wish/hopelist:
Warhawk (Tilt controls, ho!)
Jumping Flash (Tilt controls, ho!)
Tecmo's Deception
Destruction Derby (Tilt controls, Ho!)

For iPhone money you could do better than a Hero, surely?

Why bother? Just get a PSP for $130 off Gamestop and you can use all the Playstation games in the PSN store without having to wait for them to be ported.

Or Evo or whatever the new hotness is (I'm rocking a Rumor 2 at the moment - so you can see how up I am on phone tech. I saw the thing a year ago and said "Ooh! QWERTY keyboard! Sold!")

Because the chap needs a phone. This news is great as a bonus, something extra cool for a phone you need already. Also, phones are about half the size of a PSP.

It seems kind of silly to switch to a different phone platform because it can play Playstation games. Especially when the ergonomics for playing PS1 games are going to be horrible.

Well obviously it wouldn't be the only reason for getting the phone. Hence my choice of the word "bonus".
I, for instance, have an Android phone. I got it because I like it in of itself. This news is just icing on the cake for me.

It wouldn't surprise me if this isn't the case, although making games is cheaper than designing and selling hardware so it'd be in their best interest.

That's not surprising, given how easy it is to develop for phones; we'll have to wait to see if it's 'PSP style games that compete with other Sony products' or 'lifeless Angry Birds clones'.

As an owner of a Droid 2, this pleases me greatly.
Now Popcap just needs to hurry up and finish porting Plants vs Zombies and Peggle, and life will be just peachy.

It said that (some) upcoming phones will support it, the chances of an older phone (albeit a high end one) supporting the same games as a soon to be released high end phone is unlikely.
Which is annoying, since the only android phone in Israel is the Galaxy S, and I was hoping to upgrade to it once my old contract finishes.

It's limited to phones using gingerbread (Android 2.3). Which, yeah, is presently only used by a few phones. Though I'm hoping an upgrade comes out soon for my desire HD.

I own a Droid so i'm looking forwards to this. I'm not exactly sure how the Droid keyboard is going to work out for controlling a video game though.

Might not have those in minds. Mainly it's for touchscreen phones (and, undoubtedly, the next Xperia phone which has a slide out PS control system as the flagship).
