Saw this on SB, felt like sharing...
Halo fans can go ahead and
press the button.
Meanwhile, I'm gonna bask in your anguish.

I found this bit amusing:
It’s too early to start sounding the alarm, but this could be the beginning of the first wave of unnecessary remakes that could stifle the creativity of the industry and divert precious funding away from new intellectual properties; similar to the phase Hollywood is currently undergoing.
Yeah because clearly the games industry is a haven of creativity and isn't just rehashing the same ideas and concepts again and again and again....remind me when the next CoD is out?
EDIT: Fuck, why am I even talking about the game industry? The same criticism can be levelled against the entire Halo franchise.

Will the remake cut out the Library? Because then I fully support it.

I've been under the impression that it is just one of those HD re-releases, or maybe Halo remade in the Reach engine. Tombraider Anniversary was similar in that respect.
The kind of thing FF7 fans have been clamouring for.
It's a separate identity to whatever the next Halo story game is going to be though.

Wasn't Bungie's line that Halo Reach was going to be the last Halo game, period? I can see this as a sort of work-around if it's just a re-release of the original with a better engine. I have to say I wouldn't mind that, even compared to Halo 2 the graphics suck. It's not as dramatic a difference as, say, Dark Forces II Jedi Knight versus Jedi Outcast, but it's pretty major. '
And I agree, kill the goddamn Library level. That was just freakin' annoying...

Word on the street is that they aren't even porting the game to the newest iteration of the Halo engine, it's just the same Halo CE engine with upres'd art assets and rendering at HD.

No, it was
their last Halo game before they went off to make
Call of Duty in SPACE original new IP for Activision.
Halo is owned by Microsoft, and you can bet they're going to milk it 'til it's breasts bleed.

The article only indicates that it's on some other engine than the Reach one. The original Halo CE engine predated xbox live and thus doesn't function well, or at all, over the internet. Just putting prettier textures in the original engine would be pointless, nobody would buy the remake unless it has live capabilities.
Sounds like they're going to license an engine, assemble a team, and grind out a copy of Halo CE with networking capabilities and achievements. If we're lucky they'll rework some of the levels to be less repetitive. Hell, just putting a few vehicles on the Library level and having the enemies only spawn once would greatly improve that level.
So happy it's not the current Bungie crew doing the remake.

So, the source on this is...Joystiq? Why the hell would you guys believe anything they say?

Has Joystiq actually done anything in the past to indicate their releases are either inaccurate or seriously misleading? I'm having trouble thinking of any. I mean it's not like we're talking about Gizmodo here, and even Joystiq says it's just a rumor.

Aghhhhh. In my head I confused Joystiq and Kotaku. Ignore me and all will be well.

As long as they keep the original voice acting work, I think I'll give it a look-see, if it turns out to be genuine.

If they add some graphical polish, add the extra weapons from the sequels and maybe some proper mod and map tools, and most importantly price it like an expansion pack then I'll be buying it.

I would buy it if a PC version was released with coop.

If they're rebuilding it from the engine up, no way does it get priced as an expansion pack. Hell, this is the gaming industry and Halo. Now way in hell does it get priced like an expansion pack, period.

Joystiq doesn't mention anything about rebuilding it from the engine up. Just giving it new art assets and modifying the controls.

Seeing as how shooters make their money on multiplayer these days, I can't see them releasing a game that doesn't function with Live.
Maybe they'll just try to work Live functionality into the original engine, but as I said before:
No way in hell does it get priced like an expansion pack, period.

That doesn't mean they have to make a completely new engine. It just means they have to modify the existing one enough to allow for XBL compatibility.

I think you're being a bit too optimistic about the pricing. Remember ODST?

I honestly couldn't care less about the price. It's a day 1 for me, even if they just slap prettier textures on the models. Also thinking back on it - The Library didn't bother me all that much.

We seem to be talking past each other Zod. I'm saying that the game will be full price, no matter what features are or are not added. I say this because, yes, I do remember ODST and the 4 hours of campaign gameplay and barely changed features and the human that played like a SPARTAN and the full price.
It's Halo. Millions of fans will pay full price for anything with its name on it. Why worry about actually taking strides towards making a better game?
