Need a good FREE ad-killer

I don't know if this really belongs here per se, since most of this part of the forum is about gaming, but it says gaming and computers and this is a computer issue.

I'm sure I don't need to explain to frequent interweb users why I'm sick to death of ads and pop-ups :) . So a while ago I got a free trial for AdMuncher, and it worked very well, but now it's up and I need some kind of free (cause I'm poor) ad-murderizing thing to protect my computer from the obnoxious three-minute ads for Motorola with the creepy bow-legged chick in pink they run before and after every TGWTG video.

For the record, I don't have Firefox, mainly because I don't know if I can get all my stuff transfered over to it and I seriously doubt I have any room on my computer to download a whole new internet system thing (browser? I don't even know). So I can't get what I'm told is the best AdDestroyer which as I understand it is part and parcel of Firefox.

So if anyone could maybe direct me to something, it'd be a gigantic help.

How much hard drive space do you think a browser needs? Just get firefox and get the Adblock Plus extension.

Yeah, really. You don't have twenty megs of a free disk space?

I think I have enough space, maybe. I'd have to check, I have like a shit ton of downloads so I have no idea but I can get rid of some of the old ones I don't need. I think it said 5 gigabites or something.

Ok you sold me on it, I'll get Firefox, that's settled. Can I get my old favorites over there or do I have to hunt them all down again or something?

You could have answered that question for yourself if you just had bothered to google all about exporting favourites. They even have step-by-step tutorials. With pictures.

Indeed. Short version: you export your favourites as a web page. You open Firefox, choose Import, choose the web page, rearrange the bookmarks into pleasing shapes, and you're done.

Firefox will import IE favorites at first-run.

I forgot; I tend to blank out IE, which granted may be more due to bias these days than any clear inferiority vis a vis Firefox.

I think she's hot. I'm convinced that chick is an elf.

That said, yeah. Browsers are small fries in terms of memory space. Firefox, AdBlockPlus. Very, very few advertisements get through it, and those that do you can order it to add to its nail-to-the-wall lists.

Plus, Firefox has text-entry dictionary functions, just like a word processor. :)

Yes yes, I'm genuinely kind of embarassed about my inability to properly use computers. But in my defense, you all must understand, that my grasp of computers and browsers and such is quite limited. A lot of stuff that you all consider common knowledge I have little idea about, I only really even became aware of Firefox as anything other than "words computer people use I don't understand" a few months ago. All of this is really completely new information for me, guys, I didn't even know Firefox HAD an ad-blocking program until literally a week ago.

So yes, I know my computer ineptitude is quite humiliating but I'm learning as best I can. If anything this has all been a huge help for me, as now I know and understand that I can and will transition to (what I understand is) a much better internet user...thing. So as annoying as my computer-retardation is to you all, I on the other hand found this whole thing quite informative.

So fuck you, I win.

(No I'm kidding, thanks for the help, really. :) )

ShadowDragon: I guess she's ok looking, she's not hideous. All in all I guess my reaction could be summed up as a really agressive version of "Meh".

"Browser" is the word you're looking for. It's not hard to pick up computer skills, and you can always just ask without feeling embaressed. Everybody's gotta learn sometime.

IE9 is a fine browser.

So I gather. Bias on my part. I've simply gotten stodgy and used to Firefox, and will likely remain so until Firefox becomes too slow and unwieldy. And then the cycle will continue.
