Plus details on what you'll be able to do as the Boy Wonder.

Batman Arkham City Robin

Provided they play through the entire game, everyone will have the chance to play as both Batman and Catwoman in Batman: Arkham City. The same can't be said for Robin, however; he was previously listed as a pre-order bonus for the game at Best Buy, and in case you thought it was a mistake, the retailer's website has now posted an image and some brief details on what players will be able to do as the exclusive character.

Robin sounds as if he works much like the Joker, who was a playable character in the PS3 version of Arkham Asylum. He was a reskinned version of Batman with his own weapons and gadgets. Robin will be available in the PS3, 360, and PC versions of the game, provided you get a pre-order code for the 'Tim Drake Robin pack' at Best Buy. He's described as a "fully playable character" in the challenge mode where he has his own "unique gadgets and special moves" and an alternative Red Robin character skin. Besides the challenge modes that are otherwise included with the game, the pack has two additional challenge maps to play as him on, Black Mask Hideout and Freight Train Escape.

Assuming there are no other exclusives from other retailers, Best Buy looks like the place to pick up the game. As for whether or not Robin will ever be made available as downloadable content, we don't know at this point. Joker was never made available to non-PS3 players, but that was a platform exclusive; it's entirely possible that the terms of this exclusivity deal will be different and that Robin could be made available separately at a later time. At this point, though, you'll have to buy the game at Best Buy in order to guarantee yourself a chance to play as Robin.

Sweet.

This is the most idiotic thing I've ever read from a "Games journalist". of COURSE he will be DLC at some point for everyone. Only a retard would think otherwise. I'll eat my kriffing shoe if he's not included as DLC within 6 months of release.

In all seriousness, when I ehard about this, I jizzed in my pants.

just a little. This game looks better and better every time I see it.

Fratboy d-bag with a popped collar.

That's the description I heard of Robin from some folks recently. Now with eyes on, I totally agree.

Really? I think this Robin is in keeping with the spirit of the game really well. I mean, the pose screams fratboy d-bag, outside that, though, how can this not increase your anticipation of this game? Or are you just Starking?

He described Robin; he didn't even mention anticipation. Maybe he's not the kind of person who works himself into a hype-driven frenzy for a game that isn't out yet?

Maybe he isn't. Then again, maybe he is - what do I know? Look, it's the internet, if someone has something negative to say about a thing, etiquette dictates that one assumes the offender hates everything about that thing.

Oh, you mean how they made The Joker available as DLC in 6 months? Oh wait, they NEVER did. Just like the article says.

Where the hell do you get that from? Did you actually look at the picture?

Not every pre-order bonus has been made into DLC. EA has done retailer specific pre-order bonus's multiple times that never made it into purchasable DLC packs. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Bad Company 2. So "of course" is not necessarily so.

Chardok is probably referring to this DLC as too 'major' to be DLC only; the stuff that stays preorder only is generally small stuff or 'prestige' stuff (golden guns, armours from othter games, that sort of thing). If this is a whole character with unique gameplay and levels, it seems pretty unlikely they'd lose the chance to sell it for $20.

What? That pic in the OP? Of course I didn't look at it.

Like I said, I heard people describe the character look as such and can definitely see why they'd choose that description.

I don't know how platform specific playables work, but that is exactly the opportunity they passed up with the Joker.

Really? In that case, maybe they WILL be idiots. I thought the Joker became regular DLC. :(

Why? Please describe how he looks like a "frat-boy"?

Did the great and powerful Stark not read the OP? :P Nope he never was released, as the OP article said.

I plead PS3 blindness! :)

Like you and theOP say, it'll be a poor precedent if distributors get the clout of platform bribes. I'm not sure it's likely, though, since Joker was announced as PS3 only forever before AA even came out. Hopefully for players if they're being coy it means the briefcase full of money wasn't big enough.

It says the Joker was a platform exclusive, not a pre-order bonus. I bought Arkham Asylum months after it was released and was still able to download the Joker free of charge.

Yes, on the PS3. As we are talking about him not being a DLC item for anything else... shut up.

You used the Joker as a counterpoint to Chardok's claim that they would obviously release the Robin character as DLC. While I agree that not all pre-order bonuses are released later as DLC, the Joker does not apply as a counterpoint because the Joker was never a pre-order bonus. It was free DLC for all PS3 owners and could be downloaded without a pre-order. Here, see?

The Joker was ALWAYS DLC. You just didn't have to pay for it, so fuck off.

You can also play as Catwoman, for a few minutes, at least. Didn't want to make a separate thread, though.
