Play by email games

Hi guys
I have a significant urge (after reading a sandy mitchell book) to run a warhammer fantasy game inspired partly by the plot.
I'm looking for one or two people to play around with, either story descriptive, or as GM and players. Character careers will be more limited than usual, but there will probably still be thirty or so available. They'll mostly be town based stuff, hunters, seamen and such.
In terms of rules, I have a set, and could probably... point people in the right direction. Real copies of the books are near impossible to get these days, so it's all digital.
If anyone is interested, please post, or ask for details and stuff.

Play by email, you say? How exactly would we be playing, and what would the point be?

But I'm interested in general.

Well the point would be to create a story, just like with any RPG. There will be a plot, fantastical creatures, terrible dangers, and probably some stabbing.

There are two options for playing:
1) GM and players. You create a player, I create a story. In any fights, I'm the bad guys, doing the rolls for them. I also do all the NPC's and such.

2) Collaborative story. We all create a character in the Warhammer fantasy rules. But we only use the statistics as a vague limit of abilities, or we stick to the spells if we have them. From that, we write a story. Sometimes, I will drop out of character, and write a GM section, that will include major plot points, or the appearance of bad guys. But within character we write a paragraph or so per email, and this all fits together in a story. Make sense?

I would be interested, although I have never had any involvement in the Warhammer Fantasy game before. I know the world's background roughly through a sort of osmosis from reading GW stuff. I'd be more interested in the collaborative storyline version.

I wouldn't worry too much about the background. I'll be mainly sticking to the Empire, and it'll be pretty laid back in terms of canon.

Well if you go for a not too rules heavy approach count me in.

Well the collaborative story is basically ruleless. You use your character sheet as limits for your character, and write within that limits. So if you're accuracy with a bow is under 50%, you're writing should represent that, with your character missing around half the time. Or if you are a magic user (say a hedge wizard) you should stick to the spells provided in the rules, but I'm hardly going to chew you out for making up some minor application of magic.
The only place the rules will really turn up is right at the start, at least with the collaborativeness. After that, there are no dice rolls.

Works for me, count me in. Can I secretly worship the local Cthulhu-equivalent?

How about slaneesh
Pleasure seekers, pure and simple... well, not just pleasure, any sensory input. Such as pain, or noise, or anything :D
Or Tzeentch? Lord of change :P
Anyway, we will talk about it. Listen, I'll get some PM's out to the pair of you and we can start playing, hey?

Well, i'm in. I'm playing a barmaid turned thief, with a mix of burglary and social skills and maybe some light melee for self-defence purposes.

Regards to your grandad btw. Hope he gets better fast.

BTW, we have a watch-woman, a scribe, and a peasant so far. Just so you know what you're with.

Additionally, doom. You do know of the Empire's opinions on magic users, yes?
If so, good. I just want you to know what you're getting yourself in too.

I've played 40K, and IIRC this is badically that, but fantasy. If so, then yeah, I know just how much they love their magic users.

Keep in mind that you're playing a Hedge wizard and that you are thus unlicensed, making it everyones duty to kill you. Worshiping Tzeentch just makes it worse.

Meh. I'd probably do something stupid and get killed anyway. At least if everyone's out to get me I can blame something other than sheer idiocy on my part.

You COULD play an apprentice wizard. That way people will still far, distrust and hate you, but they won't run straight to the nearest witch hunter.

That would be acceptable, however the tzeentch worshipping would not be.

Also, you'll need a good reason to be in the village, and for your master to be dead.
